PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Phoenix hot dog vendor says he fought back while he was attacked on the job in downtown and he wants the community and police to do more.<\/p>\n
A typical night for Arnold Chance is grilling hot dogs out on the streets of Phoenix. Over the weekend, a night out on the job turned into a violent attack. <\/p>\n
Chance said he was posted up along Second Street, south of Roosevelt Street, feeding hungry folks leaving the bars. A video from a viewer who was there shows a group seemingly antagonizing Chance. Then a brawl breaks out. <\/p>\n
Chance said this all started because he refused to serve some people who were, in his opinion, a little too drunk. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey were inebriated, intoxicated and they were talking violent and disrespectfully to me and my business, so I decided to decline their business. I asked them to kindly leave, and they did not, and it escalated from there,\u201d Chance said. <\/p>\n
Chance said his hot dog stand, called \u201cDoggy Style Doggs<\/a>,\u201d is a fresh start after being incarcerated. <\/p>\n \u201cI was an adolescent knucklehead. I was like, what am I going to do? I have to figure out something without robbing or hurting someone, so feeding someone and making money sounded good to me,\u201d Chance said. <\/p>\n He\u2019s been serving up dogs for almost a year. And isn\u2019t looking for any more trouble.<\/p>\n At one point during the encounter, you see him get shoved. In that moment, he said he tried to just shake it off.<\/p>\n \u201cAnyone out there to start trouble or looking for trouble, just don\u2019t do it. There\u2019s no need. I was just trying to feed everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n In another clip, you see two Phoenix police officers intervene, flashing lights, working with the crowd in what appears to be de-escalation.<\/p>\n Chance said the officers didn\u2019t get involved the way he thinks they should have. Arizona\u2019s Family has reached out to Phoenix police and the department says it\u2019s looking into it. <\/p>\n As for Chance, he says he\u2019s disappointed and wants people to do better.<\/p>\n \u201cI feed the homeless, so for you to attack me or be with me in a situation in a negative way, it\u2019s just sad.
