{"id":109581,"date":"2025-08-01T06:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T06:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/109581\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T06:41:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T06:41:10","slug":"part-of-popular-sydney-beach-closed-after-rockfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/109581\/","title":{"rendered":"Part of popular Sydney beach closed after rockfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another witness of the cliff collapse, who asked not to be identified, said he felt the ground shake and heard a loud crash, which he thought was from a nearby construction site.<\/p>\n<p>The council said it\u2019s investigating whether heavy rainfall contributed to the collapse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssessments are ongoing, but it appears sustained heavy rainfall may have contributed to the section of the cliff slipping, beneath which a stormwater drain \u2013 or culvert \u2013 ran,\u201d the council said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe culvert and a safety rail were badly damaged during the slip. A geotechnical assessment will be conducted to ensure the stability of the cliff area and to determine whether the exclusion zone needs to be extended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another local, Ben Robinson, said he had recently walked over the stormwater pipe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo days ago, I was walking down the stairs that are now smashed.
