As the larger gaming community is sure to clock, that portion of the calendar was previously penciled in <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/gaming\/news\/gta-6-release-date-may-2026-rockstar-games-apologizes-1236384841\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/gaming\/news\/gta-6-release-date-may-2026-rockstar-games-apologizes-1236384841\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for \u201cGrand Theft Auto 6.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut EA Entertainment president <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/laura-miele\/\" id=\"auto-tag_laura-miele\" data-tag=\"laura-miele\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laura Miele<\/a> says a lot of thought went in to exactly when to launch the expansive next chapter in the \u201cBattlefield\u201d franchise, well before Take-Two Interactive\u2019s Rockstar had moved the game out of that slot to next May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe have always have been heads down, unblinking about this fall and executing at a level of excellence,\u201d Miele told Variety Thursday ahead of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/battlefield-6\/\" id=\"auto-tag_battlefield-6\" data-tag=\"battlefield-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Battlefield 6<\/a>\u201d release date announcement. \u201cSo we really worked hard with our team and with ourselves, candidly, to not get distracted by what was happening around us. But we always said that with all of this investment and with all the potential of this franchise, we would not have put it in harm\u2019s way, and we would not have put it out in the blast radius of something really large. So we had our eye on it, for sure, and we were thinking about scenarios, but we were pretty unblinking, and we weren\u2019t allowing ourselves to play the \u2018what if?\u2019 game with the schedules and development. We were like, no, we have to get this done, because the opportunity is so big and the potential is so significant for the company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut \u201cBattlefield 6\u201d is far from the only thing Miele has to talk about these days. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile EA has remained largely mum and very teasing on its upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/gaming\/news\/the-sims-5-update-multiplayer-creator-content-ea-interview-1236142010\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/gaming\/news\/the-sims-5-update-multiplayer-creator-content-ea-interview-1236142010\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiplayer offering for \u201cThe Sims\u201d franchise<\/a>, Miele confirms it now \u201crepresents one of the biggest growth opportunities for Electronic Arts\u201d moving forward and the team is \u201chard at work and feverishly developing what this [multiplayer] platform is going to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhat we\u2019re doing is upgrading and refreshing all this technology, and we\u2019ll be adding modes of play \u2014 but we also are going to be creating and updating the base technology and the base user experience on the core game,\u201d Miele said. \u201cSo you\u2019re going to have this life simulation, you\u2019re going to have multiplayer capabilities, we are going to have mobile expressions of this. We\u2019re doing cozy games as well and more to come on that. We did a release with Nintendo on cozy games in Asia for \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-sims\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-sims\" data-tag=\"the-sims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sims<\/a>.\u2019 I see \u2018The Sims\u2019 as a significant ecosystem, and a universe of multiple \u2018Sims\u2019 experiences that we have to build on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile some fans have expressed disappointment the game isn\u2019t going to the traditional sequel game route with a \u201cThe Sims 5,\u201d Miele maintains this is for the best for the larger community of Simmers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhat I wouldn\u2019t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you\u2019ve purchased over the years,\u201d Miele said. \u201cWe put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on \u2018The Sims 4,\u2019 and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEA\u2019s biggest transmedia project at the moment is the <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/the-sims-movie-plot-details-amazon-ea-margot-robbie-1236142126\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/the-sims-movie-plot-details-amazon-ea-margot-robbie-1236142126\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upcoming \u201cThe Sims\u201d movie<\/a> from Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie\u2019s LuckyChap, which was finally the \u201cright creative partnership\u201d for a film that Miele says the team has been talking about for \u201cyears and years and years.\u201d (\u201cThe Sims\u201d video game franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMiele says EA is currently considering significant opportunities for tie-ins with \u201cThe Sims\u201d games upon the release of \u201cThe Sims\u201d movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhere we sit today, from a technology perspective, innovation perspective, we are in a moment where we can actually co-create content and be a multiplier for each other and have these great experiences for fans,\u201d Miele said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be so full circle and so fulfilling to bring content in a linear way and an interactive way, simultaneously, and even have it adapt to fans and how things are going. When we have a couple of ideas about how we would go to market with a movie and a couple of different expressions, I just think the opportunity is so ripe.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRegarding the potential to adapt the \u201cApex Legends\u201d franchise for TV or film, Miele hints that players \u201cdon\u2019t have all the backstory, the history, and there\u2019s just rich worlds and rich history with these characters and these legends that can come to life through linear media and partnerships,\u201d adding: \u201cWe\u2019re pretty motivated to do that, and doing it in a way that really respects and upholds the brand and the franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFollowing the <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/gaming\/news\/black-panther-video-game-canceled-electronic-arts-layoffs-1236412168\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/gaming\/news\/black-panther-video-game-canceled-electronic-arts-layoffs-1236412168\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancellation of EA\u2019s planned \u201cBlack Panther\u201d<\/a> game this May, questions have arisen about the publisher\u2019s plans when it comes to licensed games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAccording to Miele, EA\u2019s current slate tied to Disney and Marvel IP includes the upcoming \u201cStar Wars Jedi 3\u201d game from developer Respawn, large-scale mobile title \u201cStar Wars: Galaxy of Heroes,\u201d MMO \u201cStar Wars: The Old Republic,\u201d as well as an \u201cIron Man\u201d video game and \u201ca few others that haven\u2019t been announced yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor Miele, this is all about maintaining a \u201creally strong balance in our portfolio\u201d while forging EA\u2019s future in \u201cmassive online communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAs we\u2019re talking about \u2018The Sims\u2019 and \u2018Apex\u2019 and \u2018Battlefield\u2019 and \u2018Skate\u2019 \u2014 these are significant investments,\u201d Miele said. \u201cThere is significant time, energy and focus to get these right and get these platforms right. We\u2019re doing new things with these massive online communities, so when we assess our resources, our priorities, our teams, I think we are striking the right balance of investing in these big online communities with EA\u2019s brands and IP, and while partnering with this incredibly rich, amazing IP for the action RPG category that is still really strong and we are quite confident our ability to execute in that space.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Electronic Arts revealed Thursday that its eagerly anticipated \u201cBattlefield 6\u201d will be released Oct. 10.
