Denny Hamlin<\/a> and Michael Jordan<\/a> are partners at 23XI Racing, but when it comes to competitiveness, Hamlin says he\u2019s got the edge.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0The Dale Jr. Download<\/a>, the 44-year-old driver was asked if he\u2019s more competitive than Jordan. Hamlin didn\u2019t hesitate to say yes, clarifying that the difference is where each of them are in their careers and what their day-to-day looks like inside the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Michael Jordan at 60 years old or 50\u2014I hate to mess this up\u2014but at whatever age he is, it\u2019s different,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t have to compete each and every week. So when you\u2019re in season, or you\u2019re in your job of being a professional sports athlete, your mentality absolutely is different than what it is after you retire.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Jordan is still super competitive, Hamlin is the one racing, making weekly strategy calls and leading the on-track efforts of 23XI\u2019s growing team. That involvement, both as a driver and co-owner, keeps his mindset in the zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never had known Michael Jordan during that most intense time of his career. I know him as retired Michael. I know him as family Michael. I know him as my golfing buddy Michael. \u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hamlin has four Cup Series wins so far in 2025, the most this season. He\u2019s still chasing his first championship and his role in 23XI Racing<\/a>\u2019s competitiveness is front and center.<\/p>\n

Their dynamic at 23XI is like their roles: Hamlin, the competitor; Jordan, the figurehead and investor.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not to say Michael Jordan\u2019s fire is gone. Denny Hamlin said Jordan still trash talks when they go golfing. \u201cHe still trash talks quit a bit when we go play golf,\u201d Hamlin said. <\/p>\n
