{"id":110445,"date":"2025-08-01T14:18:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T14:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/110445\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T14:18:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T14:18:20","slug":"slovenia-bans-arms-exports-to-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/110445\/","title":{"rendered":"Slovenia bans arms exports to Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<strong>Slovenia has said that it will ban all weapons trade with Israel over the war in Gaza, in what it said is a first by an EU nation.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSlovenia&#8217;s government has frequently criticised Israel over the conflict, and last year moved to recognise a Palestinian state as part of efforts to end the fighting in Gaza as soon as possible.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Slovenia is the first European country to ban the import, export and transit of weapons to and from Israel,&#8221; the government said in a statement late Thursday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt said it was moving ahead &#8220;independently&#8221; because the bloc was &#8220;unable to adopt concrete measures&#8230; due to internal disagreements and disunity&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAmid the devastating war in Gaza, where &#8220;people&#8230; are dying because humanitarian aid is systematically denied them&#8221;, it was the &#8220;duty of every responsible state to take action, even if it means taking a step ahead of others&#8221;, the statement said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt added that the government had not issued any permits for the export of military weapons and equipment to Israel since October 2023 because of the conflict.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nEarly in July, Slovenia &#8212; also in a EU first &#8212; banned two far-right Israeli ministers from entering the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt declared both Israelis &#8220;persona non grata&#8221;, accusing them of inciting &#8220;extreme violence and serious violations of the human rights of Palestinians&#8221; with &#8220;their genocidal statements&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn June 2024, Slovenia&#8217;s parliament passed a decree recognising Palestinian statehood, following in the steps of Ireland, Norway and Spain, in moves partly fuelled by condemnation of Israel&#8217;s bombing of Gaza after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Slovenia has said that it will ban all weapons trade with Israel over the war in Gaza, in&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":110446,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[99,50],"class_list":{"0":"post-110445","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-israel","9":"tag-news"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/114953945461623861","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/110445","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=110445"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/110445\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/110446"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=110445"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=110445"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=110445"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
