\n\tJust hours after the long-awaited release of her new single, \u201cThe Subway,\u201d Chappell Roan<\/a> has shared a music video for the song, a ballad she performed for the first time more than a year ago, at the 2024 Governors Ball<\/a> festival. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe clip, directed by\u00a0Amber Grace Johnson\u00a0(Jorja Smith, FKA Twigs), is a New York City-themed fantasy that features the singer in multiple, often surreal scenes: walking down crowded sidewalks in a variety of comically longhaired wigs, splashing around in the Washington Square Park fountain, peeling off a business suit on a windblown street, and of course riding the subway.<\/p>\n

\n\tChappell says in the press release announcing the video, \u201cThe cliche of \u201cthe girl that got away\u201d barely scratches the surface for me with this song. I wrote it as I was\u00a0 stumbling around New York with a broken heart and I kept envisioning us on every street, fire escape, coffee shop, park and yes\u2026 the subway.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough it wasn\u2019t released until Friday, \u201cThe Subway\u201d found a life of its own on TikTok this year, with fans picking the outro \u2014 in which Roan belts, \u201cShe\u2019s got, she\u2019s got a way \/ She\u2019s got a way, she\u2019s got a way\u201d \u2014 to soundtrack nostalgic video clips and photos (over 100,000 posts<\/a> have used the unofficial audio).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe music video comes just days after the Grammy winner announced a series of pop-up shows scheduled for later this year. In making the announcement, Roan confirmed that she\u2019s working on the follow-up to her debut album, \u201cThe Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.\u201d She said the shows were her effort \u201cto do something special before going away to write the next album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRoan hasn\u2019t shared new music since \u201cThe Giver\u201d earlier this year, which came after the success of her breakout single \u201cGood Luck, Babe!<\/a>\u201d The single peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and reached No. 1 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tRoan\u2019s upcoming pop up shows \u2014 a run she\u2019s dubbed \u201cVisions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things<\/a>\u201d \u2014 will take place throughout September and October. This includes four consecutive nights at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, N.Y., two at Museum and Memorial Park in Kansas City, M.O., and two at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, C.A.<\/p>\n
