{"id":110967,"date":"2025-08-01T18:49:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T18:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/110967\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T18:49:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T18:49:11","slug":"paloma-shemirani-woman-who-died-of-cancer-had-five-coffee-enemas-a-day-instead-of-chemo-inquest-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/110967\/","title":{"rendered":"Paloma Shemirani: Woman who died of cancer had five coffee enemas a day instead of chemo, inquest told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">A woman who died from cancer after refusing chemotherapy to treat it was instead having five coffee enemas a day to beat the disease, an inquest into her death has been told.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Paloma Shemirani, a 23-year-old Cambridge graduate, died after suffering a heart attack linked to her non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the Royal Sussex County Hospital on July 24 last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The actions of Paloma\u2019s mother Kay \u2018Kate\u2019 Shemirani, a disgraced nurse and controversial health influencer, is under scrutiny, with Paloma\u2019s brothers alleging she was abusive to her children and involved in Paloma\u2019s \u201calternative treatment program\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-3mk41m-StyledText eze0guv9\">Sign up to The Nightly&#8217;s newsletters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1r9pdr5-StyledSubText eze0guv8\">Get the first look at the digital newspaper, curated daily stories and breaking headlines delivered to your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>By continuing you agree to our <a href=\"https:\/\/thenightly.com.au\/subscription-terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terms<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sevenwestmedia.com.au\/privacy-policies\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Privacy Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Kate was struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in 2021 after peddling COVID conspiracies that \u201cput the public at a significant risk of harm\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">At an inquest into Paloma\u2019s death her twin brother, Gabriel Shemirani, said he blamed his mother \u201centirely\u201d for his sister\u2019s death, saying she \u201cobstructed treatment\u201d, The <a class=\"css-hwy1qg-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/paloma-shemirani-refused-chemotheraphy-inquest-b2799206.html\">Independent<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIn short I believe that she sacrificed Paloma\u2019s life for her own principles, I believe that she should be held accountable for Paloma\u2019s death,\u201d he said in the Kent and Medways Coroners Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">He told the inquest Paloma was having \u201cfive coffee enemas a day\u201d under her mother\u2019s care as part of an unproven alternative cancer regimen known as Gerson therapy \u2014 one which her mother claimed to have used successfully herself when she had cancer in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Gerson therapy involves a strict diet and supplements and uses coffee enemas to \u201ccleanse toxins\u201d from the body.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/674eed17273b2b6404a5b46a5355ff3fc5424b95.jpg\" alt=\"Gabriel Shemirani.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>Gabriel Shemirani. Credit: Gareth Fuller\/PA<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">While Paloma was still alive, in April 2024, Gabriel brought a High Court case to assess his sister\u2018s ability to make medical decisions while living with her mother, he had also previously raised his concerns with social services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">In written statements, Paloma had expressed fear of undergoing chemotherapy, worried it could affect her fertility and even questioned whether she even had cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">With treatment, the five year survival rate for patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma is about 75 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The inquest was told that Paloma had a complicated relationship with her mother and was estranged from her at the time she was first diagnosed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Gabriel alleged Paloma was considering chemotherapy to treat her cancer but her parents pressured her into rejecting it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">In one message to Paloma, her father wrote, \u201cdon\u2019t consent to anything from the doctors they try and kill you\u201d.
