JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 August is Black Business Month and News4JAX is highlighting the contributions of Black Americans to the workforce across various industries.<\/p>\n

One way you can celebrate is by shopping at or visiting local Black-owned businesses.<\/p>\n

We asked you to share some from your neighborhoods that deserve to be recognized, and we got LOTS of awesome submissions.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve compiled a list with a brief description of the business, its location and a link to its website (whenever possible).<\/p>\n

DUVAL COUNTY<\/b>Academy of Scholars<\/b><\/p>\n

Founder and CEO Shevonica M. Holley\u2019s Bar-B-Q has two claims to fame: It\u2019s the oldest continuously operating barbecue restaurant in Jacksonville<\/a>, and it\u2019s said to be where curly fries were invented. Opened in 1937, Holley\u2019s recently survived a brush with closure after several break-ins because the community stepped up to raise thousands for the historic eatery<\/a>.<\/p>\n
