{"id":111214,"date":"2025-08-01T20:56:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T20:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/111214\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T20:56:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T20:56:13","slug":"should-northern-light-health-patients-with-anthem-insurance-be-concerned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/111214\/","title":{"rendered":"Should Northern Light Health patients with Anthem insurance be concerned?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">PORLTAND, Maine (WMTW) &#8211; Medical care for thousands of Mainers remains uncertain as Northern Light Health and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield continue contract negotiations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/get-the-facts-should-northern-light-health-patients-with-anthem-insurance-be-concerned\/65555283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/get-the-facts-should-northern-light-health-patients-with-anthem-insurance-be-concerned\/65555283\">with just one month left before their current agreement expires.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If the two sides fail to reach a deal by Sept. 30, Anthem-insured patients may be forced to seek care outside the Northern Light Health system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At the heart of the disagreement is reimbursement: the amount Anthem pays Northern Light for patient care. The hospital system says reimbursement rates need to increase to keep pace with inflation, while Anthem claims Northern Light is seeking a 30% price increase over three years \u2014 a rate the insurer says exceeds what other Maine hospital systems charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Contract disputes between health systems and insurers are not uncommon in Maine. In 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/mainehealth-announces-contract-termination-with-anthem\/39654813\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MaineHealth announced plans<\/a> to end its contract with Anthem over similar reimbursement concerns, though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/agreement-reached-maine-medical-center-anthem-subscribers\/40923986\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">both parties ultimately reached an agreement<\/a> before patients were affected. The following year, Covenant Health <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/maine-health-insurance-provider-maine-hospital-system-deal\/44451062\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finalized its deal<\/a> with Anthem on the same day its contract was set to expire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As negotiations continue, no immediate action is required from patients. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WABI.
