Recent bear activity led officials on Friday to close the Franconia Brook Tentsite in Lincoln.<\/p>\n

Officials said a black bear recently damaged several tents and a screen enclosure. Officials described the bear as “food-habituated.”<\/p>\n

Officials said the campsite, which is on the East Side Trail near the Pemigewasset River, will be closed until they believe the bear no longer poses a safety risk.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe closure is needed to protect public health and safety,\u201d the U.S. Forest Service for White Mountain National Forest posted on Facebook<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Officials said in general, to avoid confrontations with bears, campers should store food properly in closed and locked vehicles or bear containers. <\/p>\n

Campers should also keep a clean campsite to prevent bears from foraging for food. <\/p>\n

Officials said visitors who do not properly store their food could receive a citation. <\/p>\n
