Kathy Hochul announced on Friday the project to build <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/interborough-express-inches-closer-to-becoming-reality-now-awaiting-environmental-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">the nation&#8217;s busiest light rail system<\/a> has entered the engineering and design phase.<\/p>\n<p>The future of mass transit in Brooklyn and Queens<\/p>\n<p>Renderings provide a glimpse into the future of transit between two of New York&#8217;s most-populated, yet underserved communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A clean, fast, 14-mile light rail line. A connection between Brooklyn and Queens like never before. We&#8217;re calling it the Interborough Express, IBX,&#8221; Hochul said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan has been discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/light-rail-looks-to-bring-trolley-cars-back-to-nyc-as-part-of-interborough-express\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">for more than 30 years<\/a>. August 1, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                New York Governor&#8217;s Office<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This means a lot of planning is going to occur. Looking at the stations, tracks, vehicles, signals, so we can get shovels in the ground and make this become a reality,&#8221; the governor said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hochul approved $2.75 billion in funding for the project back in April.
