\n\tConservative media and Vice President JD Vance<\/a> may be filling hours of time and social media posts galore mocking a supposed progressive knee jerk reaction to the wordplay in Sydney Sweeney<\/a>\u2018s American Eagle<\/a> ad campaign, but the clothing company itself has stood back from the fracas \u2013 until now. <\/p>\n

\n\tAccused by a few stray voices on the Internet of promoting fascist eugenics ideologue and more, and amplified ten-fold with curated outrage by the likes of Fox News<\/a>, ex-Fox News host Megyn Kelly and White House communications boss Steven Cheung, the Jay Schottenstei-run AE may have found themselves testing the limits or patience of the notion that there is no such thing as bad publicity.<\/p>\n

\n\tSo today, American Eagle went online to try to clear things up.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans\u2019 is and always was about the jeans,\u201d the company posted, as their use of genes in the initial campaign seemed to hit a partisan nerve on an already busy news week. \u201cHer jeans. Her story. We\u2019ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tClearly there is no direction mention of the Euphoria<\/a> star\u2019s script in one of the ads where she says: \u201cGenes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe face of multiple campaigns and products, Paradigm-repped Sweeney has said nothing about the AE campaign or the so-called controversy. However, as anyone who saw the White Lotus<\/a> actress in Saturday Night Live<\/a>\u2018s Hooters skit <\/a>when Sweeney hosted the NBC late-nighter for the first time back on March 2, 2024, she is certainly more than aware of her image, her figure and the way she is perceived \u2013 and quick to mock it, repeatedly. One of the busiest and most versatile people in Tinseltown the past couple of years, 27-year-old Sweeney also hasn\u2019t been hesitant in the past to call out what she thinks are \u201cfake\u201d empowerment messages in Hollywood \u2013 like she did last year<\/a> in a Vanity Fair Q&A \u2013 or \u00a0paparazzi\u00a0 putting her \u201csafety at risk.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tOn the other hand, JD Vance went on the bro-centric Ruthless podcast this week to try to stick it to the Democrats over the Sweeney ad fallout from the likes of MSNBC producer Hanna Holland. \u201cLike, I actually thought that one of the lessons they might take is we\u2019re going to be less crazy,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe lesson they have apparently taken is we\u2019re going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful. Great strategy, guys,\u201d the ambitious Veep said on the show. That\u2019s how you\u2019re going to win the midterms.\u201d Especially young American men.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOf course, problem here is no significant Democrats have come out and said much of anything about Emmy nominee Sweeney\u2019s American Eagle campaign. Not that that fact seems to mean much to those on the Right as Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s MAGA base fractures over the administration\u2019s continued concealment of the Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> files.<\/p>\n
