The Cowboys have indicated they are willing to pony up, but negotiations have stalled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">How did it get to this point? Here\u2019s a timeline of notable moments regarding Parsons\u2019 contract:<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>Early 2024: <\/b>In his statement, Parsons said he instructed his agent David Mulugheta to reach out to the Cowboys after the 2023 season, his third in the NFL, in hopes of striking an early deal on an extension. Get the latest news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>April 2024:<\/b> The Dallas Morning News reports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2024\/04\/24\/dallas-cowboys-pick-up-micah-parsons-fifth-year-option-for-2025\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2024\/04\/24\/dallas-cowboys-pick-up-micah-parsons-fifth-year-option-for-2025\/\">Cowboys will pick up the fifth-year option on Parsons\u2019 rookie contract<\/a>. He\u2019s scheduled to earn $21.324 million in 2025 base salary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>February 2025: <\/b>In his statement, Parsons said he instructed his agent to talk contract with the Cowboys at the NFL Scouting Combine, a common practice among teams and player reps. Parsons said his agent preferred to wait until more players received new contracts to drive up the price. Parsons\u2019 agent met with Adam Prasifka, the Cowboys\u2019 director of salary cap\/player contracts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>March 2025: <\/b>Parsons and Jerry Jones met and discussed the parameters of a deal. Parsons said in his statement that he did not believe these were formal negotiations, while Jones thought a potential deal had been worked out. Parsons told Jones to contact his agent. Both sides have confirmed no talks have taken place since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>March 9, 2025: <\/b>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/03\/09\/myles-garrett-agrees-to-massive-extension-with-browns-following-trade-request\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/03\/09\/myles-garrett-agrees-to-massive-extension-with-browns-following-trade-request\/\">Cleveland Browns and defensive end Myles Garrett agreed to a four-year deal worth $160 million<\/a>. The deal has an average annual salary of $40 million and made Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback at the time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>March 28, 2025: <\/b>The News reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/03\/28\/cowboys-star-micah-parsons-wants-to-become-the-nfls-first-200-million-defensive-player\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/03\/28\/cowboys-star-micah-parsons-wants-to-become-the-nfls-first-200-million-defensive-player\/\">Parsons is expected to ask for a $200 million contract extension<\/a> that would become a record for a non-quarterback.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>July 17, 2025: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/07\/17\/the-pittsburgh-steelers-make-star-linebacker-tj-watt-the-nfls-highest-paid-defender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/07\/17\/the-pittsburgh-steelers-make-star-linebacker-tj-watt-the-nfls-highest-paid-defender\/\">Outside linebacker T.J. An apology was then made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>Aug. 1, 2025:<\/b> Parsons released his statement on X, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/08\/01\/micah-parsons-trade-request-cowboys-contract-dallas-extension\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/2025\/08\/01\/micah-parsons-trade-request-cowboys-contract-dallas-extension\/\">stating his desire to be traded<\/a>. \u201cAfter repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys,\u201d he wrote. Parsons said he submitted the request to Stephen Jones personally.
