Stephen Colbert<\/a> is reportedly set to make his way to a new, fictional late night home following CBS<\/a>\u2019s shock decision to cancel \u201cThe Late Show<\/a>\u201d next year.<\/p>\n

Colbert is expected to guest star on CBS\u2019s police procedural dramedy \u201cElsbeth<\/a>,\u201d a spinoff of \u201cThe Good Wife\u201d and \u201cThe Good Fight,\u201d according to Vulture<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The gig will see Colbert as host of the imaginary \u201cWay Late with Scotty Bristol.\u201d The guest appearance \u201cwas almost surely planned\u201d before CBS\u2019s announcement, per Vulture, as production has been taking place in New York this week.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear exactly when Colbert agreed to the episode and when it is set to air on CBS, which claimed that the \u201cLate Show\u201d cancellation was \u201cpurely financial\u201d in nature despite questions over whether politics influenced the move.<\/p>\n

Colbert \u2014 in an interview<\/a> with \u201cElsbeth\u201d star Wendell Pierce back in February \u2014 revealed that he had repeatedly asked the network if he could portray a \u201ccorpse\u201d on a future episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be the body that\u2019s found behind the pile of lettuce boxes or something like that,\u201d Colbert added.<\/p>\n

Pierce, in response, vowed to \u201cmake that happen\u201d for Colbert as the series had just been renewed<\/a> for a third season.<\/p>\n
