SAN ANTONIO \u2014 After proudly welcoming guests to the original Sea Island Shrimp House behind North Star Mall for six decades, captain Jolly Jack is getting a makeover.<\/p>\n
The local family-owned seafood chain announced on Tuesday the beloved 10-foot-tall concrete statue was carefully removed from his perch for restoration ahead of their 60th anniversary.<\/p>\n
Sea Island Shrimp House has served the San Antonio area since 1965 and has since expanded to seven locations, also branching out to New Braunfels. The award winning restaurant is known for high-quality, wild-caught seafood and recipes made from scratch. <\/p>\n
Jolly Jack is part of our history and part of our family,\u201d said CEO Barclay Anthony, the youngest son of Sea Island Shrimp House co-founders, Dan and Chrissy Anthony. \u201cThis is our way of honoring Jack\u2019s legacy and celebrating the generations of guests who\u2019ve grown up with him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Christopher Stuart Cast Stone has been tasked with restoring the captain to his original 1965 appearance, a process that will take approximately eight weeks. The new captain will be unveiled later this summer at a grand reveal party open to the public.<\/p>\n
