{"id":113029,"date":"2025-08-02T13:08:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T13:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/113029\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T13:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T13:08:11","slug":"curtis-sliwa-will-let-voters-decide-on-nyc-sanctuary-status-if-elected-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/113029\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtis Sliwa will let voters decide on NYC sanctuary status if elected mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa will have voters decide whether the Big Apple should remain a sanctuary city if he\u2019s elected mayor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll put the issue where it belongs \u2013 in the hands of New Yorkers,\u201d the Guardian Angels founder told The Post about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/18\/us-news\/mayor-eric-adams-says-city-wont-be-able-to-help-ice-with-deportation-efforts-because-of-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">city\u2019s controversial designation that helps criminal migrants avoid deportation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Former Mayor de Blasio and his left-wing comrades on the City Council pushed through a series of  policies in 2014 and 2018 that help criminal migrants avoid deportation by severely limiting the NYPD\u2019s and city Correction and Probation departments\u2019 ability to cooperate with the feds.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Adams last week insisted <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/25\/us-news\/eric-adams-insists-he-cant-nix-nyc-sanctuary-city-policies-with-executive-order-after-trump-doj-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he can\u2019t issue an executive order to roll back the law because he\u2019d likely be overridden by state pols <\/a>\u2013 even as the Trump administration amped up pressure\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/24\/us-news\/doj-sues-nyc-mayor-adams-over-sanctuary-policies-after-off-duty-cpb-officer-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with a new lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0targeting the pro-criminal migrant policies.<\/p>\n<p>Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa is vowing have voters decide whether the Big Apple should remain a sanctuary city if he wins November\u2019s general election.
