The fire quickly elevated to a three-alarm fire, drawing the large response\u00a0of firefighters, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Firefighting efforts were mostly defensive, Evans said, before the fire was declared extinguished at about 7:42 a.m. The abandoned building sustained significant damage. No firefighters were injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">A neighboring apartment complex, located at 718 North Marsalis Avenue, sustained \u201cexposure damage,\u201d Evans said.
