The 1970s produced some absolutely stellar tunes, especially in the world of rock music. And if you’ve got a good memory, the following three songs that came out during your childhood might just ring a bell. Let’s look at a few songs that are super nostalgic for people born in 1965, shall we?

“The Ballroom Blitz” by Sweet (1975)

This glam rock classic by the band Sweet dropped way back in 1973. If you’re American, though, you probably didn’t hear it until it was released in the US in 1975.

The Sweet really dominated glam rock in the UK for a hot minute in the 1970s, and “The Ballroom Blitz” is just one of many super memorable songs by them. However, if you were a kid in the early 70s, you probably heard this No. 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, specifically, via the radio quite often.

“Popcorn” by Hot Butter (1972)

This song doesn’t have any words, considering it’s a wholly instrumental track. However, if you were an early lover of synthesizers, you might just clock this synth-pop tune right away. This song was originally put together by Gershon Kingsley in the late 1960s using a Moog synthesizer. However, Hot Butter’s version from 1972 might be the version you remember most.

It was an international hit and made it all the way to No. 9 on the Hot 100 that year. Many consider Hot Butter’s version of “Popcorn” to be proto-disco, too. Ah, music history!

“Black Water” by The Doobie Brothers (1974)

When it comes to nostalgic songs to people born in 1965, leaving out The Doobie Brothers would be a cardinal sin. I went with “Black Water” from the 1974 album What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. This is a pretty important song, as it was the group’s first No. 1 hit single of their career.

It’s a solid roots rock gem. And if you enjoyed watching the ABC sitcom What’s Happening!! as a kid, you might remember the band performing this tune during their two-episode appearance on the show. The Doobie Brothers really knew how to do harmonies well, and this song is an excellent example of that talent.

If you were born in 1965, you got to enjoy a pretty amazing era of music.
