{"id":113759,"date":"2025-08-02T19:33:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T19:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/113759\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T19:33:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T19:33:22","slug":"humanoid-robot-strolls-midtown-and-stuns-new-yorkers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/113759\/","title":{"rendered":"Humanoid robot strolls Midtown and stuns New Yorkers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Famously unfazed New Yorkers were rattled by this robot.<\/p>\n<p>The humanoid stunned passersby as it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1724832718918822\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">strutted through Midtown<\/a> \u2014 grabbing hot dogs, trying on sneakers and racking up viral attention in a wild promo stunt.<\/p>\n<p>The KOID-branded bot, priced around $100,000, was rolled out last week by global asset management firm KraneShares to promote its Global Humanoid and Embodied Intelligence Index ETF, which launched in June after the bot <a href=\"https:\/\/kraneshares.com\/kraneshares-koid-etf-humanoid-robot-rings-nasdaq-opening-bell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">rang the Nasdaq opening bell.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reactions ranged from excitement to fear as KOID rolled through Midtown \u2014 drawing stares, laughs and plenty of phone cameras. Courtesy of Jon Demske<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I was witnessing firsthand . . . the first lightbulb or the first car,\u201d said Joseph Dube, head of marketing at KraneShares. \u201cPeople were amazed. Some people were terrified. It was a major mixed bag of reactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the stunt, the bot marched down Fifth Avenue, posed for selfies and casually walked into a Hoka store \u2014 where stunned employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@kraneshares\/video\/7530279852990025015?_t=ZT-8yRTgyZsp13&amp;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">helped it try on sneakers.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The whole scene was orchestrated by content creator Ben Sweeney, who filmed for the @NewYorkers social media account while interviewing passersby. Satan, I rebuke you to hell,\u201d one man on the street <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DMaxtniMK99\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">shouted.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much am I getting paid, and how much is the robot getting paid?\u201d another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DMuzmeAR0fL\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">asked.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to happen,\u201d a woman said when asked about a potential robot takeover.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-mission, KOID paused for a New York rite of passage \u2014 a hot dog from a cart vendor \u2014 before continuing on his walk. Courtesy of Jon Demske<\/p>\n<p>Others were more optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>One blind man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/ben-sweeny_nyc-newyorkers-robotw-activity-7354108817749463040-7bde?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAAFwwzEB_drGJ2n2a-_zc-lbAytY_lH4DCQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">called the tech<\/a> \u201cwonderful,\u201d noting it could help people who can\u2019t have guide dogs due to allergies or other limitations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, I would love for it to clean my house,\u201d another passerby said.<\/p>\n<p>KOID rang the Nasdaq opening bell in June, part of a flashy rollout for KraneShares\u2019 AI and robotics ETF that had the machine next to execs in suits. Courtesy of Jon Demske<\/p>\n<p>Built by Chinese robotics firm Unitree and supplied by Long Island-based RoboStore, KOID runs on Stanford\u2019s OpenMind software.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was remote-controlled during the walk but is fully programmable and already used in research labs and universities, Dube said.<\/p>\n<p>Though lifelike in its movements, KOID wasn\u2019t thinking for itself.
