You know, for that game with the red Solo cups and a few ping-pong balls,\u201d the future defund-the-police Queens assemblyman recalled in a <a href=\"https:\/\/bowdoinorient.com\/bonus\/article\/6544\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sept. 16, 2011 column for The Bowdoin Orient, titled \u201cIdiots Steal Table<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u201cNot a drinking game though, because that would be against the rules, so we play with water. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>And the \u201ccrime\u201d was premeditated \u2014 Mamdani admitted to eyeing the piece since he was a freshman the year before, he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed he grew so fond of the furniture that he plotted with a buddy to \u201cborrow the table for a few nights\u201d at his new campus living quarters by carrying it \u201cin broad daylight\u201d from one building to another, <a href=\"http:\/\/themainewire.com\/2025\/06\/bowdoin-hyjinks-maine-student-who-got-caught-stealing-is-now-ready-to-downsize-nycs-finest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Maine Wire<\/a> first reported.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani wrongly assumed there were no security cameras along his getaway path, so his jaw dropped the following day when he got a call from <a href=\"https:\/\/bowdoinorient.com\/2025\/05\/02\/dont-b-a-stranger-a-final-interview-with-randy-nichols\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Randy Nichols, a retired Maine State Trooper <\/a>who then ran the nearly $65,000-a-year college\u2019s security.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani during his senior year at Bowdoin in 2014. Bowdoin SJP\/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it had to do with a crime to report, since I also cover the crime beat for this paper. In a way, I wasn\u2019t wrong,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis first words to me on the phone: \u2018Zohran, do you have any knowledge on the whereabouts of a bench from second floor West?\u2019 I couldn\u2019t believe it, and yet I kind of did. But before we established ourselves as the worst borrowers in history, I needed clarification: \u2018A bench or a table, Mr. Nichols?\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crime of stealing the table was premeditated, since Mamdani eyed the piece since he was a freshman the year before, the future anti-police pol wrote in a Sept. 16, 2011 column for The Bowdoin Orient, titled \u201cIdiots Steal Table.\u201d AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the end of the conversation, I had admitted to having taken a table from [the] second floor [of the] West [building] without asking anyone, and also to having been an idiot in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani, however, insisted in his column he still had \u201cnothing but love\u201d for Nichols \u2014 and was ready to deal with the consequences, whatever they would be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s to the man with the deepest voice I\u2019ve ever heard and the trendiest wrist-bands on campus, continuing to catch idiot table-snatching thieves for years to come. And to my meeting with my dean next week,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani graduated the Maine college in 2014 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Africana studies. The Bowdoin Orient<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear if Mamdani received any punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Nichols did not return messages.<\/p>\n<p>Reps for Mamdani, who graduated in 2014 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Africana studies, did not return a request for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"He must have gotten an F in ethics.
