NWS had issued an extreme heat warning<\/a> for Friday and Saturday earlier in the week.<\/p>\n Gabriel Lojero, a meteorologist with NWS in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM\u00a0on Thursday morning that there is another extreme heat warning expected after temperatures dip Sunday and early next week.<\/p>\n What has August weather looked like in Phoenix in the past?<\/p>\n In 2024, Phoenix kicked off the first few days of August with back-to-back days of 116 degrees.<\/p>\n In fact, last August finished as the third hottest in city history<\/a> at a daily clip of 98.7 degrees. It trailed 2023 at 98.8 and 2020 at 99.1.<\/p>\n The Phoenix average high for the last two Augusts have also been almost identical at 109.4 in 2024 and 109.5 in 2023.<\/p>\n Last year, Phoenix had the hottest summer<\/a> since records were first kept in 1896.<\/p>\n NWS said the daily average temperature from June to August, labeled the meteorological summer, was 98.9 degrees. It broke a previous record set in 2023 when the average temperature was 97.0 degrees.<\/p>\n So far, the hottest day in Phoenix this year<\/a> was July 9 when temperatures reached a blistering 118 degrees.<\/p>\n We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n Have a story idea or tip?
