Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are often hailed as one of Bollywood\u2019s most iconic couples.<\/p>\n
The two first met on the sets of Guddi and, after a few years of dating, tied the knot in June 1973. But not many know that their marriage came with one important condition from Amitabh \u2014 and Jaya continues to honor it to this day.<\/p>\n
During an episode of her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda\u2019s podcast, What The Hell Navya, Jaya revealed that Amitabh was clear about his expectations regarding her career.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had decided to marry in October because my work would have slowed down by then. He told me, \u2018I don\u2019t want a wife who works 9 to 5. Please work, but not every day. Choose your projects and work with the right people,\u2019\u201d Jaya shared.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, the couple ended up rescheduling their wedding to June.<\/p>\n
Jaya recalled, \u201cI was shooting in Calcutta for a Bengali film, and we had planned a holiday to celebrate the success of Zanjeer. One day he called and said, \u2018There\u2019s a problem. My parents say you can\u2019t go on a holiday with Jaya unless you marry her.\u2019 So he asked, \u2018What do you think?\u2019 I said, \u2018Well, we were planning to marry in October anyway. June is fine.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Following their marriage, Amitabh went on to become one of the greatest legends of Indian cinema. Jaya, meanwhile, became more selective with her roles, prioritizing her family while still leaving her mark on the film industry.<\/p>\n
