{"id":114324,"date":"2025-08-03T00:45:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T00:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/114324\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T00:45:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T00:45:17","slug":"andrey-rublev-explains-what-was-so-unusual-about-daniil-medvedevs-latest-match-at-the-canadian-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/114324\/","title":{"rendered":"Andrey Rublev explains what was so unusual about Daniil Medvedev\u2019s latest match at the Canadian Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Daniil Medvedev was hoping for a repeat of his 2021 success in Canada, but it wasn\u2019t to be as he fell in the third round.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Russian star travelled to Canada with title ambitions, in a field weakened by the withdrawals of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a>, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off his campaign with an important win, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/daniil-medvedev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medvedev<\/a> struggled past Czech youngster Dalibor Svrcina in his opener to set up a third-round clash with the defending champion, Alexei Popyrin.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2226840344-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Daniil Medvedev returns a shot at the 2025 Washington Open\" class=\"wp-image-115958\" \/>Photo by Scott Taetsch\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>It was there that his run came to an end, however, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/daniil-medvedev-explains-why-he-was-proud-despite-losing-to-alexei-popyrin-in-toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medvedev lost to Popyrin<\/a>, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing his thoughts on Medvedev\u2019s defeat, Russian number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andrey-rublev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrey Rublev<\/a> explained how the surface speed affected him.<\/p>\n<p>Andrey Rublev says there were \u2018one or two rallies every ten minutes\u2019 in Daniil Medvedev\u2019s latest match<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the Tennis Channel after his third-round win, Rublev commented on Medvedev\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Open<\/a> exit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the fast courts, yesterday I was watching Daniil [Medvedev] and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alexei-popyrin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexei [Popyrin]<\/a>\u2026Boom, boom serve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniil is the kind of player that normally you play a lot of rallies with him, it was a lot of one serve, you spend ten minutes and you maybe see one or two rallies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rest was serve mistake, serve mistake, or maybe serve, return, mistake. There is less variety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rublev had been discussing the difference in surface speeds at various tournaments on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Tour<\/a>, as he revealed he preferred the slower courts to the faster courts used in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2228110730-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Andrey Rublev looks on during his win over Lorenzo Sonego at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-117091\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, most of the courts are super fast. But, overall, the last few months, I\u2019ve been great, I\u2019ve been playing good tennis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level is improving, the level is there.
