href=\"https:\/\/www.luckyduckfoundation.org\/seniorssafeathome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seniors Safe at Home<\/a> program through a $100,000 grant from the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, matched dollar-for-dollar by Lucky Duck Foundation executive committee member Tom Mulvaney and his wife Karen, according to an announcement this month.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit organization <a href=\"https:\/\/servingseniors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serving Seniors<\/a> administers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luckyduckfoundation.org\/seniorssafeathome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seniors Safe at Home<\/a>, which provides shallow rent subsidies, case management and job search help to seniors facing homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Drew Moser, chief executive officer of the Lucky Duck Foundation, said the Seniors Safe at Home program is both humane and cost-effective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis additional support from the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation strengthens our ability to<br \/>protect San Diego\u2019s most vulnerable seniors,\u201d Moser said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timesofsandiego.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/EE6A4757-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" Foundation)<\/p>\n<p>Seniors Safe at Home began in 2023 with a $500,000 donation from the Lucky Duck Foundation \u2014 an amount it will double down on by providing $500,000 for the program\u2019s long-term health on top of the $200,000 infusion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the January 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtfhsd.org\/2025-point-in-time-count-shows-7-drop-in-regionwide-homelessness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Point-in-Time<\/a> count, more than 1,400 people 55 or older are unsheltered in San Diego County, and half of them are experiencing homelessness for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>While overall homelessness <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtfhsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2025-San-Diego-Region-Breakdown_Final-06112025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropped 7%<\/a> year-over-year in January 2025, first-time homeless seniors rose 5%.<\/p>\n<p>Serving Seniors coordinates with the San Diego Housing Commission to distribute the program\u2019s rental assistance.<\/p>\n<p>President and CEO of SDHC Lisa Jones said the groups\u2019 efforts demonstrate the value of collaboration between community organizations and government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHomelessness prevention efforts like Seniors Safe at Home are cost-effective solutions<br \/>that enable households to avoid the trauma of losing a home,\u201d Jones
