PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Two men have learned their fates for a bus stop shooting<\/a> in Phoenix that left a man and a baby hurt more than two years ago. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that 21-year-old Miguel Ceja and 20-year-old Zackary Carillo will both spend time behind bars for the shooting. <\/p>\n

Ceja was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to Attempt to Commit Second-Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. Carillo pleaded guilty to Attempt to Commit Second-Degree Murder and received 10.5 years in prison. <\/p>\n

The shooting occurred in May 2023 when a man was waiting for a bus after work near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road, and Cejo and Carrillo went up to him. MCAO says the man looked up from his phone, Ceja lifted his shirt, flashed a gun in his waistband and asked the man if he was ready to die. <\/p>\n

The man was scared he would be robbed, and started walking to a nearby gas station. Authorities say that\u2019s when he felt bullets hit his body, and the man then pulled out his own gun and fired back. MCAO says over two dozen shots were fired between Ceja, Carrillo and the victim. <\/p>\n

During the gunfire exchange, a stray bullet went into a car that was stopped at a red light, hitting a 6-month-old baby in the head. The baby girl suffered a skull fracture, and the bullet that struck her was traced back to Ceja\u2019s gun. <\/p>\n

The victim involved in the shooting had numerous injuries from being shot 17 times. Both the man and the baby survived. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s miraculous that two innocent people, including a baby caught in the crossfire, didn\u2019t lose their lives that day,\u201d said Michell. \u201cThese criminals showed a blatant indifference for life all because of a perceived wrong look. Anyone who carries out this type of senseless violence in Maricopa County will be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
