Lindsay Lohan is sharing her frustrations about how growing up in the public eye pigeonholed her from playing more sophisticated roles.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I do [think I was pigeonholed],\u201d she said in an interview with The Times U.K.<\/a>. \u201cI was so thrilled to work on \u2018A Prairie Home Companion\u2019 and yet even today I have to fight for stuff that is like that, which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this \u2014 but you also know I can do that. So let me! Give me the chance. I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I\u2019m not going to say no.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n Lohan began acting at an early age and had her first breakout role in 1998\u2019s \u201cThe Parent Trap.\u201d She became a household name after appearing in several 2000s films, including \u201cMean Girls,\u201d \u201cConfessions of a Teenage Drama Queen\u201d and \u201cHerbie: Fully Loaded.\u201d<\/p>\n As she climbed the Hollywood ranks, the movie star took a brief career hiatus during the 2000s. Lohan explained why she decided to step outside of the spotlight.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to take a minute,\u201d Lohan said. \u201cI was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life. I wanted to wait to get that itch again.\u201d<\/p>\n Lohan has since returned to the big screen and will star opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in the upcoming film, \u201cFreakier Friday<\/a>.\u201d A follow-up to the duo\u2019s\u00a0 2003 comedy, \u201cFreaky Friday,\u201d the new story features a \u201cmultigenerational twist\u201d that features Anna (Lohan) as a mom. The movie will be released in theaters on Aug. 8.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, Lohan said she wants to be a part of a wider range of projects.<\/p>\n \u201cI miss films that are stories, like \u2018All About Eve\u2019 or \u2018Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s,’\u201d she said. \u201cThere are not many major movies I want to go and see that are like that \u2014 there\u2019s a gap and I\u2019m craving to do work like that.\u201d<\/p>\n The actress is set to star in the new Hulu thriller, \u201cCount My Lies,\u201d which she also executive produces. Based on the novel of the same name, the series is about a conniving nanny who uncovers the secrets of a family she works with.
