And she works with community youth, mostly in north Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p>Now northside native Brynne Crockett, known by her stage name <\/p>\n<p>      <a class=\"Link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.blacklabelmusic.com\/bdot\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bdot<\/a><\/p>\n<p>      , has added in-arena host for the Minnesota Lynx home games to her resume.<\/p>\n<p>At the recent Kids Day matchup against the Phoenix Mercury, the fans \u2014 mostly the kids \u2014 were roaring inside the center. Bdot spoke with guard Courtney Williams and asked, \u201cSo what do you want to say to the best fans in the W?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams answered, \u201cMan, shout out to y\u2019all, man, we love y\u2019all, let\u2019s keep it gooooiiiiinnng.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The loudest day became louder with a crescendo of cheers.<\/p>\n<p>After the game, Bdot signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans. And that always inspires me more, because that&#8217;s the goal is for them to see themselves when they see me,\u201d Bdot said. \u201cFull circle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crockett said her experiences helped her land a job with a team she\u2019s been a fan of for years. She said she\u2019s especially fond of the days when Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus were playing.<\/p>\n<p>Students who\u2019ve seen her call games at North High and have gone on to graduate this year have told her she inspires them, Bdot said. Her path shows kids that there is more than one way to the top, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know some young girls wanted to play in the WNBA. And maybe they feel like if they don\u2019t make it there, they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, well, if I don\u2019t make it in the WNBA, I could still work for the WNBA in a certain way,\u2019&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>As a hip-hop artist, Bdot found an early mentor in her uncle Kelly Crocket, a.k.a. rapper Kel-C. He performed locally with the I.R.M. Crew.<\/p>\n<p>She said over the holidays, he taught her and her cousins the basics of rapping. She was eight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all just kind of used to rap in the basement \u2026 mimic him. He would rap with us,\u201d Bdot said. They would freestyle and improve to eventually find their voice, she added.<\/p>\n<p>Bdot said her uncle saw talent in her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy uncle used to always be like, \u2019You know, the boys are good, but Brynne is the monster. Her mother bought Bernadette Anderson\u2019s home, a place where Prince lived for a time.<\/p>\n<p>Bdot said her mother showed off the basement and told her it would be her room. She added that she planned to put in carpet. But Bdot wasn\u2019t sold on the space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen she added in this emphasis of, like, \u2018You don&#8217;t even know how special this basement is. We used to come down here and see Prince and then practice,\u2019\u201d said Bdot, who adds that she was in high school at the time.<\/p>\n<p>She said she responded: \u201c\u2018Sure Mom.\u2019 [I] didn\u2019t believe her whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Years later, when Crockett was in her 20s and living on her own, Prince died. She said her mother called her up and asked her to check on the house to make sure it was secured. Her mom suspected some fans would head to the house where Prince once lived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m thinking in my head, like, Mom, ain\u2019t nobody \u2014 like, you\u2019re making this up,\u201d Bdot said. \u201cBut then, sure enough \u2026 there were roses all over our steps \u2026 all the biggest news outlets were trying to come and interview my mom \u2026 or get in the house. That\u2019s when I really believed my mom. Beal described her former pupil as happy, bubbly and a very good student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe just has a really good disposition in life. And think, when you teach high school, you can see that already formed in a student,\u201d Beal said. \u201cEven how Brynne is now is very similar to how I viewed her in high school, which is just very warm, welcoming, kind and interested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beal remembers seeing a music video online of Bdot. She was performing in Beal\u2019s old classroom at North High.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was really special to me, that that is where she recorded it. I\u2019d like to think it\u2019s because it brought her good memories and not that it was the only room available to do the video recording,\u201d she recalled. \u201cBut I just really loved that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her former teacher said she appreciates that Bdot has stayed in the community, as a mentor and role model.
