metropolitan area has severely damaged the roof of Innaloo\u2019s IKEA store, with hundreds of customers turned away from the furniture store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Signs have been plastered on building entry points blaming a \u201ctechnical issue\u201d for the closure and workers, equipped with megaphones, are telling punters in the car park it is closed because of storm damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The West Australian understands part of the furniture store\u2019s roof was blown away during wet and windy weather on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Andrea Summers and Andy Smith drove two hours from Bunbury to pick up items for their house renovation before they were turned away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe checked their website before we left home because we checked what time it opened, and we were getting stuff on the list ready,\u201d Mr Summers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe\u2019ve driven all the way to this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cNow we will drive two hours back to Bunbury \u2014 a four hour round trip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Workers were seen telling customers it was \u201cnot safe\u201d inside the store, with maintenance already underway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">One worker was observed saying the store would likely be closed throughout Sunday, with it likely reopening sometime on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Cars were still funnelling through the carpark despite the closure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">IKEA. who was approached for comment, has since changed their opening hours on Google to \u201ctemporarily closed\u201d, with no visible warning on their website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the SES had received more than 60 calls for assistance since 4.30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">He said over a third of those calls came from the Mandurah and Rockingham areas, with the the remaining calls for assistance \u201cwidespread\u201d across the Perth metropolitan area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Flooding and roof damage were the main issues reported to the SES.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Senior meteorologist Luke Huntington said the the rainfall in the last 24 hours, which is at 40mm, was \u201ctypical\u201d of winter and not unusual, citing 61mm of rainfall on August 15 and 16, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" August was 63.8mm in 1994.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A spokeswoman for Western Power said about 20,000 people were affected by storm conditions across Perth, but that had been reduced to 14,000 people as they address hazards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe damaging and destructive winds associated with the storm front have thrown debris, including tree branches, into the network damaging equipment and bringing down power lines,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe have all available crews addressing hazards on the network and we are putting plans in place to bring more on if the current levels escalate unexpectedly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">She said repair work on damaged infrastructure will not begin until the storm front has passed as a result of lightning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cOur network operations team is working to isolate damaged parts of the networks and backfeed where possible to restore power where it is safe to do so,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" Perth metropolitan on Sunday morning which will continue through until the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A storm advice remains in place for the Perth metropolitan area, the South West, the Great Southern, the Goldfields-Midlands, and the Mid West Gascoyne regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">People are being urged to stay at least eight metres away from fallen power lines and call Western Power on 13 13 51.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The spokeswoman said the expected restoration time for most customers is 6pm Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The Perth area is expected to experience less rain in the
