{"id":115127,"date":"2025-08-03T08:22:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T08:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115127\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T08:22:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T08:22:12","slug":"earthquake-strikes-new-jersey-tremors-felt-in-parts-of-nyc-officials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115127\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthquake strikes New Jersey, tremors felt in parts of NYC: officials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A small earthquake rocked parts of New Jersey and New York on Saturday night, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>The magnitude 3.0 quake struck six miles beneath the ground in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, at 10:18 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey.<\/p>\n<p>The Bergen County borough is roughly 13 miles from Midtown, with tremors reported being felt in parts of Upper Manhattan, including Hell\u2019s Kitchen, as well as Riverdale in The Bronx and even Staten Island. No injuries or damages were immediately reported in New York City, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NotifyNYC\/status\/1951841529385157055\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">officials said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.89473684;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36723877\" width=\"528\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0-km-ne-hasbrouck-heights-109149364.jpg\" alt=\"Map of New Jersey earthquake intensity.\" class=\"wp-image-36723877\"  \/>The earthquake shook New Jersey, near Hasbrouck Heights. Earthquake USGS<\/p>\n<p>Earth-rattling was felt for as much as 10 seconds in parts of the Garden State, one person said, with shorter shakes also reported in Nutley, NJ, about nine miles south of Hasbrouck Heights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt sounded like a bang, followed by a shake and it lasted about two seconds,\u201d Erica Pirchio, 40, who was in Nutley, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have experienced two earthquakes in New York and New Jersey and this was the most violent \u2014 I never heard an earthquake before that sounded like a thud,\u201d said Pirchio, adding, \u201cI thought one of my parents fell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Folks on Staten Island also reported hearing a remarkably loud boom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt almost sounded like a car hit the side of the house, the house was swaying,\u201d said Evan Ferrer, 33, who was watching a movie with his girlfriend at their home near South Beach at the time of the rattling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one from 2024 was longer, but didn\u2019t have a boom as extreme as this. It was a boom followed by swaying that lasted for a few seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers felt a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/05\/us-news\/earthquake-rocks-nyc-tri-state-area\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rare magnitude 4.8 earthquake<\/a>\u00a0last April, which struck near Lebanon, NJ, but also sent shockwaves across Gotham.<\/p>\n<p>Last week,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/22\/us-news\/new-jersey-county-rattled-by-6-earthquakes-in-one-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">six tiny earthquakes<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 ranging from magnitude .07 to 2.0 \u2014 rattled Morris County, NJ, within one 17-hour span.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A small earthquake rocked parts of New Jersey and New York on Saturday night, according to officials.
