{"id":115406,"date":"2025-08-03T10:57:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T10:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115406\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T10:57:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T10:57:09","slug":"man-arrested-after-hit-and-run-injures-woman-and-infant-haligonia-ca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115406\/","title":{"rendered":"Man arrested after hit-and-run injures woman and infant \u2013 haligonia.ca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RCMP release:<\/p>\n<p>Eskasoni RCMP responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Eskasoni.<\/p>\n<p>On August 1, at approximately 1:40 p.m., RCMP officers, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Gabriel St., where a GMC Sierra struck a woman and an infant on the sidewalk before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The pedestrians, a 25-year-old woman and an infant from Eskasoni, both sustained life-threatening injuries. They were transported to hospital by EHS.<\/p>\n<p>En route to the scene, RCMP officers located the GMC truck near the intersection of 74th St. and Shore Rd., where a group of people had gathered. Based on information gathered at the scene, it was determined that the driver had fled on foot.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter, RCMP officers located and safely arrested the driver, a 34-year-old man from Eskasoni, who was displaying signs of impairment. He was transported to the Eskasoni RCMP detachment where a drug evaluation was completed.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier that morning, at approximately 7:55 a.m., Eskasoni RCMP had responded to a report of a possible impaired driver involving the same GMC Sierra. An extensive search for the vehicle, led by multiple officers, was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis Menge, 34, has been charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Failure to Stop After Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm<\/li>\n<li>Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (two counts)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Menge was remanded into custody. He\u2019s scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on August 5.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is ongoing and additional criminal charges are anticipated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RCMP release: Eskasoni RCMP responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Eskasoni.
