{"id":115551,"date":"2025-08-03T12:15:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T12:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115551\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T12:15:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T12:15:14","slug":"taylor-fritz-outlines-the-change-he-wants-to-happen-to-two-week-masters-1000-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115551\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Fritz outlines the change he wants to happen to two week Masters 1000 events"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open Masters 1000 tournaments will be contested over two weeks for the first time in 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the trend of Masters 1000 events expanding to 96-player draws, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a> made the switch this year.<\/p>\n<p>The move has been controversial, as several players and pundits have shared their disdain over the longer format in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>World number three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-atp-are-warned-that-no-players-like-one-change-theyve-made-to-tennis-by-alexander-zverev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexander Zverev claimed nobody \u2018loves\u2019 the two-week Masters 1000 events<\/a> during a recent podcast appearance, and he isn\u2019t the only player to have complained.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2226665424-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Alexander Zverev in a press conference at the Canadian Open.\" class=\"wp-image-117053\" \/>Photo by Mert Alper Dervis\/Anadolu via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all doom and gloom, as the second seed in Toronto, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Fritz<\/a>, believes there are some positives associated with the two-week format.<\/p>\n<p>However, he has suggested a tweak to the schedule that he would be \u2018way in favor\u2019 of making.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Fritz wants one-week Masters 1000 events and a longer off-season<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media after his third-round win over home-favorite Gabriel Diallo, Fritz shared his thoughts on the two-week Masters 1000 events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are pros and cons to it. I think the thing I can say that\u2019s the most in support of it on my side, I do like the format of play a day, day off, play a day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we do at Slams, obviously at the Slams we\u2019re playing three out of five, but I do think that I don\u2019t mind that format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you get into it, playing six matches in a row potentially, if you go all the way, six matches every day, that\u2019s a lot. Then straight off to the next tournament to do the same thing all over again, that\u2019s pretty tough to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut at the same time, it adds extra schedule<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on a potential switch back to the seven-day format, Fritz shared his concerns over what the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour<\/a> may do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be honest, the way I see it, if we\u2019re going to have this stretch of three weeks, if we\u2019re going to go back to how it used to be, one week each, if it\u2019s going to mean we\u2019re going to add another tournament, then I would be against it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" one week and we can lengthen the off-season, to give those extra weeks back at the end of the season, and give us a six\/seven week off-season rather than a four week off-season, that would be massive and I would be way in favor of doing the one week events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if they were just going to add another event in there, I\u2019d say this format is probably better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fritz, like many other players on tour, endured a quick turnaround from his 2024 season to his 2025 season, which arguably hurt him during the first few months of the year.<\/p>\n<p>How long was Taylor Fritz\u2019s \u2018off-season\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>Fritz finished up his 2024 campaign at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/davis-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Davis Cup Finals<\/a>, when Team USA were beaten by Australia on Thursday, November 21.<\/p>\n<p>The American star was back in action representing his country just 38 days later at the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/united-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United Cup<\/a> on Sunday, December 29.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, his return to action was successful, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-explains-story-behind-shovel-celebration-following-united-cup-victory\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fritz and Team USA won the United Cup<\/a>, although his ATP Tour form wasn\u2019t all that impressive during the first half of the year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
