{"id":115969,"date":"2025-08-03T15:58:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T15:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115969\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T15:58:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T15:58:12","slug":"3-0-magnitude-earthquake-jolts-new-jersey-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/115969\/","title":{"rendered":"3.0 magnitude earthquake jolts New Jersey, NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An earthquake rocked New Jersey late Saturday night \u2014 luckily, though, fairly softly.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported to be a magnitude 3 quake, generally considered to be a minor, \u201clow energy event\u201d that would not be extremely noticeable or cause extensive damage.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Geological Survey, posting on X shortly after 11 p.m., nevertheless, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/USGS_Quakes\/status\/1951844746617622909?t=WbEAGkgudJ3AOWssWHnkPQ&amp;s=03\" rel=\"nofollow\">deemed it a \u201cnotable quake.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nymetrowx\/status\/1951832281649402201?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">The epicenter<\/a> was at or slightly northeast of Hasbrouck Heights, just east of Passaic, in Bergen County, a bit under 13 miles from Midtown Manhattan, according to USGS and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nycemergencymgt\/status\/1951832978667012194\" rel=\"nofollow\">NYC Emergency Management<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NYCEM said there were no reports of damages or injuries, yet warned Big Apple residents to be on alert for \u201cpossible aftershocks\u201d \u2014 that could occur for as long as even the next several days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTremors may have been felt in parts of New York City,\u201d the agency tweeted. \u201cNYC Emergency Management is monitoring for impacts and coordinating with agency partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe prepared for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/04\/24\/turkey-earthquake-outdoors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">possible aftershocks<\/a>. These may follow minutes, hours or even days after the initial quake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo immediate protective action is needed unless you experience damage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you feel shaking, check for hazards such as shifted items, falling debris or cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the earth-shifting event jolted some parts of the metro area, it wasn\u2019t felt at all in others.<\/p>\n<p>One woman, who lives 20 miles north of Midtown, replied to the NYCEM tweet, \u201cI am in Mamaroneck, NY, and felt the rumbling and heard the LOUD sound it made! Ran outside to my back deck!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFelt it in the Bronx,\u201d tweeted a woman from the Boogie Down on the USGS quake post.<\/p>\n<p>But a Kings County resident shrugged, \u201cI didn\u2019t feel anything in Brooklyn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just five days ago, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest ever recorded, erupted off the coast of Russia, triggering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/07\/30\/tsunami-warnings-what-to-know\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fears that devastating tsunamis<\/a> could slam Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. As of Thursday, though, the tsunami fears <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fultonsun.com\/news\/2025\/jul\/31\/fears-of-devastating-tsunami-fade-following-huge\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had started to fade<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An earthquake rocked New Jersey late Saturday night \u2014 luckily, though, fairly softly.
