{"id":11598,"date":"2025-06-24T20:05:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T20:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/11598\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T20:05:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T20:05:12","slug":"houston-trucker-accused-of-faking-companies-dodging-shutdown-orders-ppp-loan-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/11598\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston trucker accused of faking companies, dodging shutdown orders, PPP loan scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A Houston man is accused of running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\">illegal<\/a> trucking companies under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\">fake names<\/a> while scamming pandemic relief funds and defying federal safety shutdown orders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\">court records<\/a>, Shaquan Jelks has been indicted on 18 federal counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Crime\/\">wire fraud, witness tampering, and aggravated identity theft.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Court documents state Jelks defrauded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Small_Business_Administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Small_Business_Administration\/\">U.S. Small Business Administration<\/a> by illegally obtaining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/PPP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/PPP\/\">COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program loans<\/a>, using the funds to support his trucking operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Among the most serious incidents connected to Jelks\u2019 companies was a fatal crash in Vernal, Utah, in February 2022, which involved a relative driving for one of Jelks\u2019 trucking operations, according to the indictment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Jelks allegedly conspired with family, friends, and associates to register trucking companies in their names to hide his involvement and avoid enforcement. He\u2019s also accused of violating multiple federal court orders and safety shutdowns from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which had declared his operations an \u201cimminent hazard.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The indictment alleges that between 2019 and April 2025, Jelks and his associates formed multiple trucking companies under different names and straw owners to avoid federal oversight and safety regulations.
