However, the guy who stole the attention in the early going was <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/07\/celtics-exec-has-no-idea-if-boston-can-sign-spurs-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">veteran center Charles Bassey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Bassey has spent the past three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs after initially spending one year with the Philadelphia 76ers. A <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/2025\/07\/spurs-center-surprisingly-joins-celtics-summer-league-squad\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surprise late addition to Boston\u2019s Summer League roster<\/a>, Bassey averaged 15.3 points and 11 rebounds over the team\u2019s first three games.<\/p>\n<p>Bassey departed from the team after their first three games, as that turned out to be the length of his contract. Since then, he\u2019s generated interest from clubs overseas, but it appears his preference would be to stay in the NBA.<\/p>\n<p>Given his dominant play, fans have pushed for the team to sign Bassey to their roster, but it hasn\u2019t happened yet. However, if the team were to reach out to him, Bassey would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JYsRrIjPelg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reportedly be all ears<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharles Bassey would especially love to sign with the Celtics if the opportunity presented itself,\u201d Celtics insider Noa Dalzell reported on \u201cYou Got Boston.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Celtics recently created a roster spot when they waived guard JD Davison, so they could conceivably sign Bassey if they wanted to. However, doing so would push them back over the second apron, so the front office needs to determine if that\u2019s a worthwhile move for them.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet are both gone, and Al Horford is likely following them out the exit door, so the C\u2019s could use some help at the center position. Bassey is undersized, but he showed during Boston\u2019s Summer League action that he can still make an impact.<\/p>\n<p>Other moves may need to be made in order for Bassey\u2019s return to be considered a possibility.
