{"id":116974,"date":"2025-08-04T01:19:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T01:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/116974\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T01:19:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T01:19:10","slug":"mission-under-way-to-save-worlds-most-beautiful-snails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/116974\/","title":{"rendered":"Mission under way to save &#8216;world&#8217;s most beautiful&#8217; snails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The most endangered of those is Polymita sulphurosa, which is lime green with blue flame patterns around its coils and bright orange and yellow bands across its shell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But all the Polymita species are strikingly bright and colourful, which is an evolutionary mystery in itself.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;One of the reasons I&#8217;m interested in these snails is because they&#8217;re so beautiful,&#8221; explained evolutionary geneticist and mollusc expert Prof Angus Davison from the University of Nottingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The irony, he said, is that this is the reason the snails are so threatened. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Their beauty attracts people who collect and trade shells.
