{"id":117306,"date":"2025-08-04T04:29:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T04:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/117306\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T04:29:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T04:29:13","slug":"asu-working-with-marines-to-improve-military-team-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/117306\/","title":{"rendered":"ASU working with Marines to improve military team training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 Arizona State University was one of three institutions selected to help the Marines \u201cdevelop reliable and objective predictors of team performance,\u201d the school announced on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, is <a href=\"https:\/\/news.asu.edu\/20250731-local-national-and-global-affairs-asu-developing-reliable-team-performance-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partnering<\/a> with the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command Battle Simulation Center to guide each of the external branch institutions with their individual research.<\/p>\n<p>ASU is specifically utilizing a Bio-Behavioral Team Dynamics Measurement System to track Marines\u2019 \u201cbiological and social patterns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the military, in these dynamic environments, it\u2019s not just about the person being able to adapt,\u201d ASU professor Jamie Gorman said in a press release. \u201cIt\u2019s about being able to work with other people that have your back, that you trust are counting on, and your ability to adapt as a team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re looking to do is create measurement systems that can do an objective performance prediction of when these war fighters have reached certain competencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How will ASU research work to help Marines?<\/p>\n<p>The BioTDMS equipment is made to observe \u201cseveral biomarkers\u201d including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neural activity<\/li>\n<li>Brain blood oxygenation (proxy for neural activity)<\/li>\n<li>Eye-tracking<\/li>\n<li>Respiration<\/li>\n<li>Cardiac health<\/li>\n<li>Verbal communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bio-tracking system was first tested in a \u201creal-world training environment\u201d earlier this year at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California.<\/p>\n<p>ASU\u2019s Gorman said the next phase of BioTDMS testing will be in the Marines\u2019 air combat sphere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to allow the (U.S. Department of Defense) to plug this in any training environment and get any level of scale or pace of training that they want to get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pwmoses11\" data-show-count=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Follow @pwmoses11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
