{"id":117447,"date":"2025-08-04T05:49:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T05:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/117447\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T05:49:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T05:49:09","slug":"harris-county-precinct-3-seeks-partnerships-to-develop-expand-sidewalk-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/117447\/","title":{"rendered":"Harris County Precinct 3 seeks partnerships to develop, expand sidewalk network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey issued an open call request in July for stakeholders interested in developing new sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The request includes collaboration opportunities with municipal utility districts, public utility districts, water districts, cities as well as independent school districts in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pct3.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Precinct 3<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough these partnerships, Commissioner Ramsey hopes to accelerate improvements, increase community engagement, and ensure sidewalks meet the needs of users,\u201d Communications Manager Jeannie Peng said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Approved sidewalk projects will be funded by both the county and participating partners, officials said.<\/p>\n<p><b>Dates to know<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The partnership application deadline is Sept. 5, county officials said, to allow for any additional sidewalks requests that may populate during the first few weeks of the upcoming school year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pct3.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Precinct 3<\/a> officials said their goal is to complete construction of all awarded projects by the fourth quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n<p><b>Another detail<\/b><\/p>\n<p>More information about the application process for interested stakeholders can be given by the Precinct 3 traffic team, accessible by their email here: <a href=\"http:\/\/communityimpact.com\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection#f8a89b8ccbbd969fac8a999e9e919bb8889b8ccbd6909b8c80d6969d8c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A scoring rubric framework will be used to rank approved projects that are based on weighted criteria including high-pedestrian factors, safety concerns, enhancements, feasibility and partnerships.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who it affects<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An average of 13% of students either walk or bike to school in Texas, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.txdot.gov\/business\/grants-and-funding\/bicycle-pedestrian-local-federal-funding-programs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas Department of Transportation<\/a>. Jeremy Eugene is a special education teacher at Cy-Fair ISD who said he knows firsthand the need for a proper sidewalk at his high school since he walks to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s not a sidewalk for a good stretch of the the actual walkway,\u201d Eugene said. \u201cIt takes like just seven minutes to walk to school.
