With the NFL regular season roughly a month away, it won’t be long before fans are talking about Tony Romo’s commentary for CBS. Right now though, he’s making headlines because of his politics.<\/p>\n

Romo, who played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2004-2016, has remained a notable figure in the NFL world since his retirement. To be fair, he calls every marquee game for CBS alongside legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz.<\/p>\n

Back when Romo was on the Cowboys, he received a few encouraging words from Donald Trump. At that time, he wasn’t the president of the United States.<\/p>\n

“The fact that Tony Romo got hurt is a terrible thing for the Dallas Cowboys,” Trump said in 2015. “I think Tony\u2019s a great guy, I know him and he\u2019s also a great football player and it certainly will hurt Dallas.”<\/p>\n

Trump also complimented Romo’s skills as a golfer.<\/p>\n

“I played golf today with a really good golfer: Tony Romo. Do you know Tony Romo?” Trump said. “He may be a better golfer than a football player. I don\u2019t know.”<\/p>\n

Despite all the praise that Romo received from Trump, he never really voiced his support for the president. Well, that all changed this month.<\/p>\n

This past Thursday,\u00a0Trump signed an executive order to revive the Presidential Fitness Test. He also\u00a0brought back the President\u2019s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.<\/p>\n

“The\u00a0revitalized President\u2019s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition will create school-based programs to reward excellence in physical education and support the development of a Presidential Fitness Award \u2014 working in partnership with athletes, coaches, teams, and schools to champion access to fitness and healthy living for all Americans,” the government said<\/a>. “The Council will also play an important role in restoring tradition to college athletics, including reforming the broken transfer portal and keeping men out of women\u2019s sports.”<\/p>\n

Believe it or not, Romo is a member of the President\u2019s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.<\/p>\n

Romo isn’t the only NFL star forming an alliance with Trump<\/a>. The President’s\u00a0Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition also includes Saquon Barkley, Nick Bosa, Harrison Butker, Tua Tagovailoa and Lawrence Taylor.<\/p>\n

Only time will tell if Romo takes on a bigger role with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n
