Star, a baby bald eagle, is recovering after falling from its nest in Grandview Heights, as witnessed by local birdwatchers.<\/p>\n

GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio \u2014 A baby bald eagle named Star is recovering after falling from its nest Friday in Grandview Heights, according to the Ohio Division of Wildlife.<\/p>\n

The eaglet\u2019s fall was witnessed by a member of a local birdwatching community who has spent years observing the nest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all very attached to these birds,\u201d said Lori Montella, a longtime birdwatcher.<\/p>\n

Nancy Lee, another observer, said the eagles have become a source of community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re just so majestic, and it\u2019s very interesting to see how mother nature works,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n

The nest, located near the heart of the city, has become a spot for community connection.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are people who go their lifetimes without seeing eagles, and to have one here in literally the heart of the city is remarkable,\u201d said Stu Nicholson.<\/p>\n

Montella said she noticed something was wrong Friday when Star did not leave the nest after a meal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew something was wrong. Their posture was different,\u201d she said. \u201cStar did not come out of the nest, fly after the breakfast meal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montella said she saw the mother eagle, Athena, fall into the river in a struggle and fly away.<\/p>\n

Later, Montella saw Star fall from the nest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI screamed and then I took off running because I knew I was going to get back there,\u201d she said. \u201cI was going to get back behind the nest where we normally don\u2019t go. That\u2019s their space, we don\u2019t go in it, but we went back there and found her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Video from the scene shows officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources rescuing the eaglet.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn one hand, it\u2019s very sad \u2014 on the surface, it\u2019s very sad,\u201d Nicholson said. \u201cIt\u2019s still pretty remarkable \u2014 the resilience of these birds in spite of it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The birdwatching community remains hopeful for Star\u2019s recovery and eventual return to the nest.<\/p>\n

Star remains in care at Ohio Bird Sanctuary in Mansfield.<\/p>\n

Officials are conducting tests to figure out why the symptoms started.<\/p>\n
