LANSING, Mich. (June 24, 2025) \u2014 In recent months, President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have been laying the groundwork to make massive cuts to Medicaid. This work most recently culminated in the U.S. House as they passed a spending bill that slashes $535 billion<\/a> from the program over the next decade, threatening to kick hundreds of thousands of Michiganders off their health insurance \u2014 all to afford a $4 trillion tax break for the wealthiest of individuals and corporations.<\/p>\n In response to the administration\u2019s threats to dismantle this essential safety net, the Senate Health Policy Committee and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Dept. of Health and Human Services (DHHS) convened a joint meeting where they reviewed, accepted and adopted a new report developed by Senate Democrats that outlines the impact federal cuts to Medicaid would have on Michiganders.<\/p>\n \u201cThe benefits Medicaid provides are far more than just numbers on a page, and the cuts being proposed in Washington represent real harm to real people,\u201d said Sen.
