It\u2019s been just about 25 years since \u201cMeet the Parents<\/a>,\u201d starring Ben Stiller<\/a> and Robert De Niro<\/a>, debuted in theaters as comedy gold.<\/p>\n

Get ready for another chapter in the film franchise \u2014 one that\u2019s set to film locally.<\/p>\n

\u201cFocker In-Law<\/a>\u201d is in production this month. <\/p>\n

It all started in 2000 with the story of a boyfriend (Stiller) meeting his girlfriend\u2019s parents (De Niro and Blythe Danner<\/a>) before he proposes marriage. \u201cMeet the Parents<\/a>\u201d grossed more than $330 million<\/a> worldwide.<\/p>\n

The movie was such a funny and winning exploration of uncomfortable tensions and spectacular failure that \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d had two offspring in the form of sequels in 2004 and 2010, which were also successful at the box office.<\/p>\n

In the first movie<\/a>, nurse Gaylord \u201cGreg\u201d Focker” (Stiller) has a series of disastrous run-ins with Jack Byrnes (Oscar winner De Niro), the retired CIA officer father of his girlfriend Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo<\/a>). <\/p>\n

Sequel \u201cMeet the Fockers<\/a>\u201d (2004) has Greg and Pam introduce her parents to his parents \u2014 played by Oscar winners Barbra Streisand<\/a> and Dustin Hoffman<\/a> \u2014 before their wedding. Streisand and Hoffman returned in the third movie, \u201cLittle Fockers<\/a>\u201d (2010), which sees Greg and Pam with their young children, twins Samantha and Henry. <\/p>\n

The latest, \u201cFocker In-Law<\/a>,\u201d will arrive in theaters two Thanksgivings from now \u2014 Nov. 25, 2026, almost 16 years after the most recent film in the franchise.<\/p>\n

John Hamburg<\/a>, a writer who has scripted the \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d movies since the first installment, also wrote \u201cFocker In-Law.\u201d This is the first time he\u2019s directing one of the films.<\/p>\n

Universal Pictures revealed the title of the sequel last week (see post below). The movie welcomes the return of Stiller as Greg, De Niro as Jack and Teri Polo<\/a> as Pam alongside fellow original cast members Blythe Danner<\/a> as Dina Byrnes, Jack\u2019s wife and Greg\u2019s mother-in-law; and Owen Wilson<\/a> as Kevin Rawley, Pam\u2019s ex-fiance and family friend of the Byrnes and Focker families. <\/p>\n

\u201cFocker In-Law\u201d is set to film in New York and is expected to spend a few days filming in New Jersey. <\/p>\n

Casting calls posted for a different movie title (to disguise the nature of the production) seek local children and adults to play people in an airport and airline crew members in Newark, pointing to the possibility of the production coming to Newark Liberty International Airport. Other casting calls have been posted for photo doubles in the movie, which is scheduled to film August through October. <\/p>\n

The latest \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d chapter brings it all full-circle as one of Greg and Pam\u2019s kids mulls having their significant other meet the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat spurred the idea is that I\u2019m the age that Bob was when we did the first movie,\u201d Stiller, 59, said at a Tribeca Film Festival screening event for the 25th anniversary of \u201cMeet the Parents\u201d<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like a mirror to the first film, where one of my kids is thinking about introducing his person to the family,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Pop star and Oscar nominee Ariana Grande<\/a> (\u201cWicked\u201d) is a new face in the cast. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think she\u2019s gonna bring a whole new life to the franchise<\/a>,\u201d Polo told \u201cToday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe character she\u2019s playing, she\u2019s gonna be really, really funny and kind of the whole engine of the new movie<\/a>, so it\u2019s exciting,\u201d Stiller said.<\/p>\n
