The train filled with smoke, and passengers were evacuated on the platform, officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>PATH and Jersey City Fire Department crews responded and remained at the scene throughout the morning.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Horrifying video posted on social media shows passengers scrambling to leave a railcar as smoke fills the air and the train doors remain closed.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Jersey city path at Newport <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/path?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#path<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NewJersey?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#NewJersey<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PATHTrain?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@PATHTrain<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rq9y9sNtIb\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/rq9y9sNtIb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Joseph Nikhil Reddy (@JosephNikhilRe3) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JosephNikhilRe3\/status\/1952317657962664424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August 4, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When the doors finally open, passengers rush out of the area, and a blaze of fire is seen underneath the train.\n<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen people were treated for smoke inhalation, with nine of them taken to a hospital for further evaluation, PATH officials said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/nyc-transit\/port-authority-bus-terminal-crash-07242025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Service<\/a> was disrupted, and multiple lines were suspended, including the Hoboken-World Trade Center and Journal Square-33rd Street routes. As of 10 a.m., the World Trade Center-NWK and Hoboken-33rd Street lines were operating.<\/p>\n<p>Many commuters had to scramble to find alternate routes. PATH officials said NJ Transit and New York Waterway are cross honoring tickets.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear right now what caused the fire, but the investigation remains ongoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A PATH train at 33rd Street.
