(Submitted by Ryan Pitts)<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Residents in several communities in\u00a0Conception Bay North, N.L. are being told to prepare to evacuate as a wildfire\u00a0burning in the area\u00a0has grown\u00a0six times in size in recent hours.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Water bombers, helicopters and ground crews are actioning the fire with support from volunteer fire departments. Officials are watching the\u00a0fire behaviour very closely.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The approximate size of the wildfire is currently 150 hectares,&#8221; said\u00a0the Department of\u00a0Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture\u00a0in a social media post\u00a0issued around 10 a.m. NT on Monday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The department is\u00a0asking\u00a0residents to pay attention to government channels for updates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Around midnight, the provincial government issued an evacuation alert,\u00a0asking\u00a0the communities from Kingston to Adam&#8217;s Cove and Broad Cove to be ready to evacuate if the call was made.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;All residents are advised to make preparations for possible evacuation in case the fire spreads towards the town and evacuation is required on short notice,&#8221; the alert\u00a0advised.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the post, on Sunday evening two water bombers, a helicopter and crews responded to the fire burning near Kingston, and estimated the fire was approximately 25 hectares in size at the time.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The province\u00a0added suppression efforts would resume Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On the Facebook page for the town of Small Point-Adam&#8217;s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, residents were also urged to be ready to flee and keep the roads clear so emergency crews in the area could travel efficiently.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the provincial wildfire map, the out-of-control fire\u00a0broke out on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The province also lists the area on\u00a0its fire hazard map as having\u00a0an extreme risk of fire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH | Scenes from a wildfire burning in Conception Bay North:<\/strong>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754319912_111_default.jpg\"  alt=\"\" class=\"thumbnail\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"video-item-title\">Another fire brings familiar sights and sounds of waterbombers and helicopters to C.B.N. communities<\/p>\n<p>The town of Small Point-Adam&#8217;s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove is being asked to be prepared to evacuate \u2014 again. Efforts are underway to fight another wildfire in the area, this one 150 hectares in size.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is also asking\u00a0drivers to only travel along Route 70 near Kingston if\u00a0necessary, in order to allow emergency responders to do their work.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Meteorologist Robert Grove told CBC Radio&#8217;s The St. John&#8217;s Morning Show there are &#8220;gusty&#8221; southwest winds and conditions will be dry along the coast, and\u00a0that&#8217;s &#8220;not ideal&#8221; for firefighting.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;But the winds should taper off and switch directions tonight, so hopefully that will be a little bit of help,&#8221; said Grove.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recent wildfires have put the Conception Bay North community <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/newfoundland-labrador\/small-point-fire-suspicious-1.7588746\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on edge in recent months<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In\u00a0May, a large fire\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/newfoundland-labrador\/badger-lake-wildfire-1.7528767\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ravaged the community<\/a> of Adam&#8217;s Cove, forcing residents to evacuate and destroying 12 homes and 45 other structures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;On edge&#8217;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Georgia Slade, who works at the Small Point General Store, said she found out about the evacuation alert around 1 a.m. and\u00a0she was already awake because her father, a firefighter, was\u00a0helping fight the\u00a0Kingston fire.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Her first reaction to the alert was to grab important documents, like her passport, as well as things that have personal significance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Map of an island with shades coloured in yellow, orange and red.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/nl-fire-hazard-map.JPG\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.8524332810047095\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>As of Monday morning, the Conception Bay North area is considered at a extreme risk of fire. (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador)<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;At this point we all kind of know what&#8217;s important to bring and what&#8217;s not important to bring. And everyone&#8217;s just kind of on edge now, at this point,&#8221; she told CBC News.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If an evacuation order is issued for the area, Slade said she&#8217;ll be heading &#8220;anywhere that&#8217;s out of this community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">People are already dropping by the general store to get gas for their vehicles so they can be ready to leave, she added.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Everyone has a little bit of panic in them but at the same time we&#8217;re like, &#8216;OK, if we freak out it&#8217;s just going to make matters worse.&#8217; Everyone just does what they can,&#8221; said Slade.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hot and dry weather conditions continue across most of the province.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In central Newfoundland, the Town of Gander announced it was cancelling its Gander Day fireworks because of the very high risk of wildfires in the area.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Download our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/newsapp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">free CBC News app<\/a>\u00a0to sign up for push alerts for CBC Newfoundland and Labrador.
