The Civil Administration noted that the farm’s fencing had deteriorated, allowing crocodiles to escape and pose dangers to residents.

“After years of promoting solutions and recent incidents highlighting an immediate threat to human life, urgent action was required,” the Administration said, citing veterinary experts who described the crocodiles’ living conditions as abusive, with insufficient food leading to cannibalistic behavior.

Despite spending hundreds of thousands of shekels to reinforce the farm’s fencing, the Civil Administration said the measures failed to secure the site fully. The farm’s owner claimed he stationed a guard at the Administration’s request, only for the guard to be expelled from what was declared a closed military zone.

The guard later reported hearing gunshots. The Civil Administration emphasized that the decision to euthanize was made after consultations with veterinary experts, ensuring full coordination. “The crocodiles are held in poor conditions, constituting animal cruelty, pushing them to cannibalism,” the administration said.

Animal rights group Let the Animals Live condemned the decision, calling it a “violent and cruel killing” that violates Israel’s international commitments to protect endangered species like the Nile crocodile, covered under global conservation treaties.

“This action blatantly disregards Israel’s obligations to animal protection.
