\n\tDonald Trump<\/a> has weighed in on Sydney Sweeney<\/a> in the wake of the viral controversy over her American Eagle jeans marketing campaign.<\/p>\n

\n\tFirst, taking questions from reporters in Pennsylvania on Sunday, President Trump was asked about reports\u00a0\u2014 unconfirmed by the Euphoria star \u2014 that she registered as a Republican last year. Citing public records, The Guardian reported<\/a> over the weekend that Sweeney registered with the GOP last June in Florida. Trump was elected to his second term a few months later.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s a registered Republican?!\u201d Trump <\/a>asked, looking shocked (video below). \u201cOh. Now I love her ad! Is that right? Sydney Sweeney \u2026 You\u2019d be surprised how many people are Republicans. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThen on Monday, Trump added on Truth Social: \u201cSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the \u2018HOTTEST\u2019 ad out there. It\u2019s for American Eagle, and the jeans are \u2018flying off the shelves.\u2019 Go get \u2018em Sydney!\u201d Trump then slammed Jaguar for \u201ca stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement\u201d and \u201cwoke singer Taylor Swift \u2026 She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.\u201d The president concluded: \u201cThe tide has seriously turned \u2014 Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tTrump\u2019s comments \u2014 coming just when it seemed like the jeans campaign\u2019s backlash was beginning to fade \u2014 add a new and more overtly political angle to the issue, with the star\u2019s brand potentially being co-opted by right-wing leaders (Trump\u2019s veep, JD Vance<\/a>, has sounded off too, below).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news also follows American Eagle breaking its silence on the backlash over such ads with a statement that both stood by its campaign while also pushing back on the protest narrative that the campaign is racist for starring the blonde haired, blue-eyed Sweeney while making a pun about having good genes\/jeans.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans,\u201d AE posted on Instagram<\/a> Friday. \u201cHer jeans. Her story. We\u2019ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAE\u2019s stock price has ticked up since the announcement of the partnership with Sweeney. The campaign itself has either been a blockbuster success or a PR trainwreck, depending on one\u2019s point of view (and sales numbers that \u2014 despite Trump\u2019s claim that the jeans are \u201cflying off the shelves\u201d \u2014 are not yet publicly known). Sweeney\u2019s other recent brand deals include Armani Beauty, Miu Miu, Laneige, HeyDude, Bai, Baskin Robbins and Ford.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast week, Vance sounded off about the controversy and attempted to tie the backlash to Democrat leaders \u2014 even though they reportedly haven\u2019t said much about this.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi,\u201d Vance said on the Ruthless\u00a0podcast. \u201cThat appears to be their actual strategy. I mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems though, which is that you have a normal all-American beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad. They\u2019re trying to sell jeans to kids in America and they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing. And it\u2019s like, you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSweeney has not responded to the uproar.
