Greg Abbott says he\u2019ll begin trying to remove Democratic lawmakers from office Monday if they don\u2019t return after dozens of them left the state in an attempt to block the adoption of redrawn U.S. House maps sought by President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The revolt by Democrats in the state House \u2014 many of whom fled to Illinois or New York on Sunday \u2014 and Abbott\u2019s threat ratcheted up a widening fight over congressional maps. The conflict has expanded to include Democratic governors who are floating the possibility of redrawing their own state\u2019s maps in retaliation. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/redistricting-trump-republicans-democrats-texas-california-e53fd3df17fb9677c29cbd155b91c353\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Their options are limited<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Judge says the Trump administration can\u2019t withhold research funding on LGBTQ+ issues<\/p>\n<p>Maryland-based U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby ruled the administration can\u2019t enforce any guidelines that bar federal funding for research because it deals with gender identity, sexual orientation or diversity, equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Griggsby, who was nominated by former President Joe Biden, made the ruling Friday in a lawsuit filed by the American Association of Physicians for Human Rights and individual researchers.<\/p>\n<p>She previously paused its enforcement. Her latest ruling puts it on hold while the case works its way through the courts.<\/p>\n<p>In their May filing, the researchers said the National Institutes of Health were denying funds.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s deadline for the Kremlin looms but Putin shows no sign of making concessions<\/p>\n<p>The coming week could mark a pivotal moment in <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the war between Russia and Ukraine<\/a>, as Trump\u2019s deadline for the Kremlin to reach a peace deal approaches \u2014 or it could quietly pass without consequence.<\/p>\n<p>So far Trump\u2019s promises, threats and cajoling have <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-russia-ukraine-war-633a216d0506c82353fc7745b69c0fe0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed to shift the Kremlin\u2019s position,<\/a> and the stubborn diplomatic stalemate remains in place. apply to enter US<\/p>\n<p>It would apply to applicants for business and tourist visas.<\/p>\n<p>In a notice to be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, the department said it would start a 12-month pilot program under which visa applicants from countries deemed to have high overstay rates and deficient internal document security controls could be required to post bonds of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000 when they apply for a visa.<\/p>\n<p>A preview of the notice, which was posted online at the Federal Register website Monday, said the pilot program would take effect within 15 days of its formal publication and is necessary to ensure the U.S. government isn\u2019t financially liable if a visitor doesn\u2019t comply with the terms of their visa.<\/p>\n<p>The bond, which would be refunded as long as the terms of the visa are complied with, wouldn\u2019t apply to citizens of countries enrolled in the Visa Waiver Program and could be waived for others depending on an
