{"id":118809,"date":"2025-08-04T18:21:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T18:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/118809\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T18:21:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T18:21:11","slug":"hank-hill-returns-to-a-changed-world-in-new-king-of-the-hill-episodes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/118809\/","title":{"rendered":"Hank Hill returns to a changed world in new &#8216;King of the Hill&#8217; episodes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 Hank Hill is back and he\u2019s the same ol\u2019 Hank Hill, but a lot of things around him have changed.<\/p>\n<p>The lovable animated hero of \u201cKing of the Hill\u201d has returned from a 15-year lull and he isn\u2019t sure what boba tea is, how ridesharing works and is confused by all-gender bathrooms. \u201cWhat kind of food is poke?\u201d he asks his wife, Peggy.<\/p>\n<p>Hank and Peggy have returned to their hometown of Arlen, Texas \u2014 and our TV sets \u2014 but a lot has happened over the years and they\u2019re stepping into a world they don\u2019t always recognize.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHank, have things changed here more than we thought?\u201d Peggy asks, worried, in the first new episode. \u201cDid we make a mistake coming back?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hulu is definitely hoping not, reuniting many of the same writers and voice cast who turned the propane-loving, beer-sipping Hill into one of TV\u2019s few blue-collar icons. The first 10 episodes hit Hulu on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>A new \u2018King of the Hill\u2019 leader <\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"AnchorLink\" id=\"image-030000\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"Saladin K. Patterson, the executive producer and showrunner for the new season 14, hopes the original fans will return to see how Hill copes in the modern day. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s always key because you want that core fan base to validate what you\u2019ve done because they\u2019re like the gatekeepers in a way,\u201d he says. \u201cSo when they sign off and say, \u2018OK, they didn\u2019t mess it up, it\u2019s still the same special show,\u2019 I think other people who may be unfamiliar with it, or even on the fence, feel like, \u2018OK, well, now we want to like it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Viewers will learn that Hank and Peggy have been in Saudi Arabia all this time, where he served as \u201cassistant manager in charge of Arabian propane and Arabian propane accessories.\u201d Their son Bobby, now 21, is the chef of a \u201cdown home, German-Asian fusion\u201d restaurant. (Sample dish: Grilled mackerel with a side of mustard pretzel.)<\/p>\n<p>Hank and Peggy have retired and he happily rejoins his line of friends drinking cans of beer in an alley. Boomhauer gives him a hug and Dale has grown even more paranoid, becoming \u201can election-denier-denier.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Bill has let himself go, staying indoors and living off Amazon deliveries. \u201cI finished Netflix, Hank. Did you know that when you get to the end of Netflix, you get something called \u2018a wellness check?\u2019\u201d Viewers in the second episode hear Tom Petty\u2019s \u201cRunnin\u2019 Down a Dream,\u201d a nice nod to the late rocker\u2019s embrace of the show when it first appeared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe writers have found that balance between the vintage \u2018King of the Hill\u2019 that we adore and the new \u2014 and letting them coexist,\u201d says Pamela Adlon, who voices Bobby.<\/p>\n<p>Same gentle tone<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"AnchorLink\" id=\"image-650000\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"Pamela Adlon attends a panel for &quot;King of the Hill&quot; during Comic-Con International on Friday, July 25, 2025, in San Diego. Hill at one point shakes his head over modern outdoor grills having sensors and app connections: \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have to call technical support to make a burger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson says the humor is grounded in real life. \u201cI do have a barbecue grill that is Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled. I have three devices to run it, but I\u2019m calling tech support because I have guests coming over and the meat needs to be done,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd I do think over the pandemic, my wife finished Netflix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While there are changes, some things are immutable. \u201cHank\u2019s still going to drink beer. Dale\u2019s still going to be a conspiracy theorist. Bill\u2019s still going to be a lovable sad sack,\u201d says Patterson. \u201cThose core character things had to be the same. I had a pastor who told me one time, \u2018Grown folks don\u2019t change.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Viewers will see in upcoming episodes if Hank \u2014 a happy propane seller and garage tinkerer \u2014 can really ever retire and watch as Hank\u2019s friends navigate new chapters. They\u2019ll also explore the relationship between an adult Bobby and his parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s of age now and it\u2019s really kind of cool because you see the similarities and all the attributes that he took from his parents that he wasn\u2019t even aware of when he was a boy \u2014 or didn\u2019t want to have anything to do with \u2014 and now he\u2019s using them to keep his business going and move himself forward,\u201d says Adlon.<\/p>\n<p>A politics-free zone<\/p>\n<p>While debates have raged over where Hank Hill sits on the political spectrum, his creators argue he represents a sensible, common-sense middle. He follows the rules and does the best he can without hurting anyone. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so not a Republican or a Democratic show or an independent show. It\u2019s all of that,\u201d says Adlon. \u201cThere\u2019s space in the world for everybody.
