But they never agreed personal terms with the player, and Liverpool did.

Photo via Wright on Instagram

In terms of why Wright chose Liverpool, reports have suggested the player preferred to stay in the north west, with Anfield significantly closer to his previous home in Salford than the Emirates Stadium in London.

Yet there have also been suggestions the player preferred the sporting plan laid out for him by Liverpool. In spite of Arsenal’s agreement with Salford, it seems they were never that close to convincing the player.

Arsenal had planned to integrate Wright in their u21 side, and Liverpool intend to do the same. In fact, they’ve already given him his first u21 appearance in a goalless friendly draw with Hull City.

Photo via Wright on Instagram

Only recently turning 17, Wright had already made four competitive appearances for League Two Salford City prior to his departure.
