Stone alleged the argument happened because she defended a friend that Douglas was talking negatively about and it \u201ctriggered\u201d him.<\/p>\n
\u201cA bunch of us were all sitting, and he was talking about someone and their kids,\u201d she claimed. \u201cI really, really knew this person he was talking about. So I said something and he responded to me, saying, \u2018What the f\u2013k do you know?\u2019 It was in regard to a father-child relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the person who goes, \u2018Oh, excuse me, superstar,’\u201d she said. \u201cI pushed back my chair and said to him, \u2018Let\u2019s step outside.\u2019 That\u2019s how we first met.\u201d<\/p>\n
The actress said they did step outside and she explained to him that she was best friends with the family that he was talking about. She said they parted ways \u201camicably,\u201d though apparently, it left an impression on Douglas.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, fast forward to casting \u2018Basic Instinct,\u2019 I don\u2019t think he wanted me to be his co-star,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Stone didn\u2019t regret the encounter, because she said it worked to her advantage during filming.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not rattled if he yelled at me,\u201d she explained. \u201cThat was interesting for the character because Michael has a temper, and I didn\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat worked very well in our dynamic,\u201d she continued. \u201cEventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. I admire him tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Douglas\u2019 rep tells Page Six that the actor \u201cdoesn\u2019t recall\u201d even meeting Stone ahead of her casting.<\/p>\n
\u201cMichael Douglas doesn\u2019t recall meeting or knowing of Sharon Stone until seeing [director] Paul Verhoeven\u2019s test of her for \u2018Basic Instinct,’\u201d the rep says. \u201cWhen he saw the test he said she was the right actress for the part. He remembers they were in Cannes together to promote the film which was screened at the festival.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Douglas\u2019 rep tells Page Six that the actor \u201cdoesn\u2019t recall\u201d even meeting Stone before her casting in \u201cBasic Instinct.\u201d FilmMagic<\/p>\n
Stone said she and Douglas eventually became \u201cthe greatest of friends\u201d and that she still admires him \u201ctremendously.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n
Stone, 67, previously revealed that\u00a0she only made $500,000 for her role<\/a> as crime writer Catherine Tramell, while Douglas, 80, made $14 million for his role as detective Nick Curran.<\/p>\n\u201cNow, I was new. I was new and he was a very big star,\u201d she shared at the New York Women in Film & Television\u2019s 43rd annual Muse Awards lunch in March 2023.<\/p>\n
Stone also said that she faced disrespect from a line producer on the film, who kept referring to her as \u201cKaren\u201d throughout the entirety production.<\/p>\n
