{"id":120211,"date":"2025-08-05T06:42:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T06:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/120211\/"},"modified":"2025-08-05T06:42:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T06:42:09","slug":"jimmy-fallons-late-night-spot-at-nbc-is-secure-for-the-moment-after-cbs-gives-colbert-the-axe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/120211\/","title":{"rendered":"Jimmy Fallon\u2019s late night spot at NBC is secure \u2014 for the moment \u2014 after CBS gives Colbert the axe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jimmy Fallon\u2019s late night spot at NBC is safe \u2013 for the moment \u2013 after signing an extension to his multi-million-dollar contract until 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The host will <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/07\/23\/celebrity-news\/pete-davidson-gushes-its-his-dream-to-be-a-dad-during-tonight-show-appearance-everything-else-doesnt-really-matter\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">continue to lead<\/a> \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u201d while also hosting his new reality show, \u2018On Brand\u2019 which debuts next month and appearing on \u201cPassword.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes as nighttime talk shows are the in crosshairs, with Stephen Colbert\u2019s \u201cThe Late Show\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/07\/18\/entertainment\/stephen-colbert-announces-cancellation-of-late-show-franchise-after-33-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">axed by CBS<\/a> and others in the under-performing bracket said to bracing for shake ups or cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>Fallon and his fellow NBC late night host, Seth Meyers, have also had to take hits.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Fallon during his show which aired on May 1, 2023. Todd Owyoung\/NBC via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Fallon infamously ruffed President Donald Trump\u2019s hair when he appeared on the \u2018Tonight\u2019 show in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeth and Jimmy had budget cuts last year, which saw Jimmy go from five days a week to four days,\u201d pointed out an industry insider, \u201cHe records Monday through Thursday and the show repeats on Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the \u201cLate Night With Meyers\u201d house band was axed to cut costs.<\/p>\n<p>Late night viewership has been impacted by the rise in social media use, particularly with the younger demographic, and cries that it has become desperately partisan \u2014 filled with Democrat-party-approved liberal guests across the board.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert announced CBS had pulled the plug on his show last month and the show will end in May 2026. Some raised eyebrows at the timing as it came after Colbert criticizing his network for paying $16 million to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/23\/media\/trump-says-he-expects-a-total-of-36m-from-60-minutes-settlement\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">settle a defamation case<\/a> with President Donald Trump, as the company is also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/04\/media\/skydance-boss-david-ellison-reveals-leadership-team-ahead-of-parmount-merger\/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=referral\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in the middle of a merger.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although he\u2019s not known for being overtly political, Fallon did have former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on the show in 2016. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>A CBS source told Page Six: \u201cWhile his staff liked him, corporate didn\u2019t \u2026 and Colbert\u2019s contract was up\u2026 so it was a perfect storm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump addressed the firing on Truth Social and warned others will be next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason he (Colbert) was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses \u2014 And it was only going to get WORSE!\u2019 he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel, and then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy\u00a0Falon. CBS via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the five main late night shows: Colbert, Fallon, Meyers, \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on ABC, and \u2018The Daily Show\u2019 with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central; the grand total was 106 guests with liberal points of view including journalists, celebrities and party officials, compared to just one conservative.<\/p>\n<p>When it came to official party representatives, the count was 30 Democrats to zero Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Fallon interviewed zero politicians during the study\u2019s run. However, he did once interview Trump in September 2016, where he ruffled his hair, causing a storm of headlines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he must still have PTSD from that,\u201d said a TV source, who described Fallon as middle of the road, politically.<\/p>\n<p>President Barack Obama appeared on \u2018The Daily Show\u2019 with Jon Stewart in 2015. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fallon, however, has more recently booked Fox News late night host\u00a0Greg Gutfeld for this Thursday and also recently had Barstool Sports\u2019 Dave Portnoy, noted for his conservative views, as a guest.<\/p>\n<p>Another insider said, \u201cJimmy is more motivated by entertaining his viewers [the political point scoring], and he knows the importance of digital-first content.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, multiple sources insisted Kimmel will keep hold of his show as long as possible and continue to target Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Bill Clinton publicized his book on Colbert\u2019s show.
